Your favourite smell

I'm sitting upstairs in an office in Portsmouth, it's warm and I open the window. As I type I can smell the faintest smell of a bonfire, lovely.

This got me wondering what are the favourite smells of other folk in the lounge?
If you were going on a journey into space and could only take one smell with you, what would it be?

Uhm.... I don't know that I could ever get it down to just one...

In no particular order:

  • aniseed
  • that glossy paper they use for travel agency brochures
  • NEW LEATHER!
  • a set of warm valves in a Fender Bassman being driven hard
  • chips from a real chippy - not this 'fries' nosense!
  • clean and healthy domestic cat
  • The first cold morning of Autumn
  • Damp in the air which heralds a long awaited, and long needed, Summer rain
  • freshly cut grass
  • freshly fallen leaves
  • home made soup
  • Christmas dinner
  • my own home
  • the glove

My favorite smell from this time of year is the smell of bushels and bushels of chiles being roasted in large ,wire cage, gas-fired roasters. I drove out to my favorite farm last week to get my annual bushel. Nothing like it in the world.

This time of year I start my fall and winter dietary regimen so the smell of spice and cooking food wafts through the air.
Breads, ethnic dishes and stews together with stir fried pignoli nuts and sesame seeds.
My fire place spreads the smell of burning wood.
The air is then punctuated with the scent of patchouli.

Oh and Coffee. :coffee:

For food I couldn't even try to pick favorites.

Burning high-octane/aviation fuel.
Burning nitrocellulose.
Wisteria.
A fruit orchard.
The woods in fall.
And of course napalm (but only in the morning)

The smell of a crisp, chilly autumn morning in a wood, when the leaves are damp. I'm sure that that would be particularly precious to me on a journey into space.

In no particular order:

My grandmother's perfume as worn by said grandmother; a heady and deep floral scent. Never been able to replicate it.

Woods after a heavy autumn dewfall.

My lovely man.

Baking bread.

Bacon frying.

Baking Victoria sponge cake.

I adore Vanilla, that's what I make myself smell like every day.

My favorite smell is the smell of my boyfreind. He is stationed abroad and that smell makes me feel safe and warm and like he is in the room with me if only for a few minutes
