Your favorite toys as a kid?

OH, favorite store-bought toy....I loved my Mattel 'Fanner Fifty' toy guns best. Very un-PC but that was the '50's-early '60's.

Remember the Yancey Derringer belt buckle with the little derringer gun that would flip out and cap fire? Also by Mattel, I think. Can't remember how it worked but man, that was one we all had to have, too.

I re lived my boyhood with my own son. Bought him lots of politically incorrect toys or gave him my old ones, mainly my old Dinky's and Corgi's and had great fun. Just how many times did a 12" Godzilla stamp on a cardboard Tokyo and throw old cars off the edge of a cliff(sofa), Action Man fought WWII again instead of Dr X and his Toxic Guts but my sons favourite was his plastic(Marx I think) 3/4 size Springfield rifle with bolt action that loaded a Full Plastic Jacket bullet. Once fired, the gun would not fire again till the bolt was drawn and re-cocked.
Once on Halloween he wanted to put an old pillow over his head and run around in a sheet as a ghost, I suppose today they would say he was Ku Klux Klan as most kids these days would dress up as Harry Potter.
Well he has grown up into an average 23 year old, gets a bit drunk occasionally but has not seen the wrong side of a police cell and with all the guns we played with he loves those WWII Playstation games but he's never had the urge to carry either a gun or a knife
My favourite toy? Airfix toy soldiers, I had thousands of them.

Absolutely! I had one!...I can't remember just how it worked either..but it did flip straight out from the buckle and fire a cap. Of course I had the Davey Crocket coonskin..and then the Zorro fencing sword with the chalk on the end to make the 'Z'...ha!

I WAS Zorro! Even had the Hi-Fi Disney story record. My mom woke up one Saturday morning to see that I had used the chalk tip to blaze "Z's" and "Zorro" all over the living room walls. That was a long Saturday with the sponge and soapy water....
Those swords ALWAYS broke off, separating the chalk tip. Can't recall if my mom assisted.

When I was a kid, I also played a LOT with trains. I still think trains are fascinating. Old choo-choo trains. Hehehe. Oh gosh, I'm going all kiddy again. I had an electric train-set with carriages and locomotives, and even one engine which lit up when you set it on the tracks and the TEENSY little headlight would shine onto the tracks as it went around. I used to turn off all the lights in the basement to play with that train at night.

We had HO scale trains. I was beaten if I called them toys, so no entry here for me . They were fascinating and I learned 'bout electricity and motors from those. Also how to paint and age them along with landscapes, mountains, water, etc. good times.

Hard to choose. I was a Thomas the Tank Engine fanatic as a kid, collecting all the Ertl diecast models from the show. But at the same time I was also obsessed with matchbox, playmobile and Lego. The Matchbox Car Wash was probably my favorite set of them all.

Alzheimers is definitely kicking in I really don't remember having toys perse as I've 4 brothers and all we ever needed was a bat and ball or a hockey puck,pretty much good to go from there,never even had more than 1 bike if memory serves correct.Guess I must have missed out...damn hate when that happens.

And military Dinky's. Years ago, when my parents still lived in the same house, I helped my mother do some gardening and unearthed my old Dinky Saracen APC. Pretty nostalgic! (Durable too...after 30 years in the ground it was none the worse for wear!)

Lego's, hands down, I still play around with them every now and then these days. Also, they weren't necessarily toys, but walkie talkies, a garden hose, a wagon, and pedal go kart....my dad was/is a fireman, every little boys dream was to be just like their dad, right?
