You Realise Christmas Is Approaching When …

the weather gets chilly, and you see ice on the windows at night your car looks frosted with ice, your lawn turns white as snow.

Ive seen some people hose their trees so it makes ice sickles , and sometimes the water hose stays frozen and you cant even spray water.

There were a few flakes of snow outside my office window a moment ago, and I got excited. Gone now, alas.

December tomorrow, and I'll be waiting for the first chance-hearing of Fairytale of New York and Slade's Merry Christmas Ev'ryBody as a harbinger of the festive season.

Even though you’ve seen this movie a gadzillion times...you still watch it around the holidays...

Great film. I thought, when I first sat down to properly watch it in my early 20s, that I'd never really seen it (though obivously I had seen all the parodies, and all the lcips in various films). Oddly, though, I realised that I had seen it as a very young child when it came to the scene with the run on the bank. No idea why that's the one that stuck in my mind from being about five... I guess it must have registered because I wouldn't have fully understood it at the time.

The Great Escape is associated with Christmas for me because I remember it being on every Boxing Day for years, when my mother's side of the family came for 'Christmas' dinner. Every year, we got to see a *little* more of it (hearing little, because of all the yacking in the room from various relatives. For sure, I think some of them were afraid that if they shut their mouth for a minute it might heal over.), before the TV got switched over at the request of relatives who wanted to watch whatever soap opera was one - "watch" meaning "continue to talk all over it", of course. After many years, I got to see it all....

In more recent years, I discovered a French film called Joyeux Noel. I think it dates to 2005; I chanced across it on television around 2012. A beautiful retelling of the true story of the Christmas truce in the trenches in 1914, when man's common humanity triumphed, albeit so briefly, over the rulnig classes and their carnage.

Salvation Army kettles and bell ringers. Several years ago a bell ringer, a most gracious lady, informed me that she was homeless,
but living in a shelter before she began conversing about literature and philosophy; yet Annie was by all outward appearances-
and I suspected interior as well- extraordinarily happy. When I noted this, asking her the secret of her bliss, she smiled and said I needed to
discover this for myself. We met again by accident the following spring and she remembered me, and told me that she had been to the circus.
I hadn't been to the circus since childhood, I admitted, and Annie told me I was imprisoned within a memory. Then she handed me a ticket
for the circus telling me to go and not be a stuffed shirt by declining. "Don't be a fool Thomas, live a little and laugh with the clowns."
I accepted the ticket but didn't go. Can't pass a kettle now without offering something.

When you impulsively buy a 99¢ bag of chocolate coins at the checkout counter, then walk down the street, attempting to handle your other purchases and open the plastic mesh bag. You open it clumsily, several gold-foil-covered coins plunk to the tarmac, and you mutter, "Friggin' Christmas. Money just slips through my fingers."

Part of the way the Fading Fasts celebrate holidays is with the appropriate holiday's candy (Easter and Halloween are reasons to buy candy with holidays attached).

"Spirited" chocolates are part of the Christmas celebration in our house. So it was fun to see this stuff pop up yesterday (much will be shared with family and friends - some will be "tested" first though ):
