There's a college campus on lake Ontario in NY state where in a particularly bad snowstorm it is rumored they used to "rope" the buildings. The rumor is they did this when the campus started and buildings were more spread out and paths were less formalized.

Having been there, and been close enough in winter to see storms that dumped 3+ feet of snow off that lake in less than 24 hours, I believe the rumor.

.. when there is a trademark dispute over a pastry.

Called a Beaver Tail.

Or as the food blogger is now calling it, the Canadian Semiaquatic Rodent Posterior Doughnut

In real bad weather they would run a rope between buildings so you could follow it and not get lost even in a driving snow storm at night. On farms they would run a rope from the house to the barn. The livestock must be fed and watered no matter what the weather. They will be snug and warm in the barn, and the family in the house, it is getting from one to the other that can be a problem.

I'm surprised this one hasn't popped up yet. You know you're in Canada when the annual professional football championship (the Grey Cup) is played in an open stadium, in late November, in sub zero temperatures (celsius) ...and it's snowing.

The only way real championship football should be played.

When two elderly women start a brawl in a retirement home, over seating at a bingo game.

https://thenectarine.ca/news/bingo-...ario-old-age-home-sparks-elderly-woman-melee/

Best line: "The (Ontario Provincial Police) do not know if the bingo game ended up going on as planned".
I can't say I'm surprised. When I was a kid our church had Monday night bingo in the community center. The ladies all took turns fixing and selling food and drink while the men served and cleaned up.
I don't recall any actual fisticuffs being reported, but I do remember my parents talking about a few times where there was screaming and name calling over mostly ridiculous things like someone sitting in "their" seat or choosing a card they wanted to play. Even though the church made good money from it they eventually stopped because people got burned out from the work it took and putting up with the players.
