Surely same questionable quality as the contemporary european VW with many spanish (Seat) parts. That was the time, when VW was on the edge of death, until they finally switched to just-in-time manufacturing, what made the quality even worse (90s).

Cassette walkman thingies are quite hip over here at the minute - invariably among kids too young to appreciate that the sound quality was never much cop.... I can sort of see the point of bringing back the Discman more, given the superior sound quality of CD over compact cassette, but they had their limits given how prone to skipping they were when on the move. I wouldn't go back to either instead of my much loved mp3 player, though - smaller than a single cassette, but able to hold almost every album I own on it.... No replacement for vinyl at home, but on the move can't be beaten.

But, IF Funai would bring back VHS recorder, I would buy, I tell you.

But I guess, they actually couldn't rebuild supply chain for new production, because the sources are dried-up. They would have to team up, I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if VHS did have a retro comeback. I'm not a fan of cassette tapes, but they're in production again now, with a lot of the kids who weren't alive when they were last a big deal getting into them again. VHS is starting to attract some of the same retro appeal for the Eighties-enthusiasts, so...

Funai or Panasonic would probably make some new recorders, if there would be enough retro market to do so. But for high prices with many inhouse parts, probably.
Back then, Funai complained, that they didn't get enough parts for further mass production.

VHS had a lot of utility as a time-shifting mechanism, although I guess DVR has supplanted that. But never having had the latter, I still use the former when there's something on I won't be home to see. And I still have several plastic bins full of stuff taped off the air from the 80s thru the 00s. If anyone wants to see six consecutive as-broadcast hours of the 1996 Beavis and Butt-Head Moron-A-Thon, it's in my attic.

Some time a year or so back I read about a horse that sold for just £800 as a two year old and had amassed winnings of over half a million. That horse was called Hewick and had been entered into The King George Stakes. It had to be worth a few shekels. First past the line at twelve to one, thank you very much.
