I liked The Monkeys. But they may have been the start of me growing up and becoming cautiously skeptical about everything. I was still young and impressionable when someone tried to explain to me that they were not really a band and were merely a Hollywood marketing gimmick. I immediately recognized the truth, but was still very disappointed. I was a kid.

The people who put together the Monkees show and recordings and all hired top-notch songwriters and studio musicians and four young men who were certainly good enough to do what was asked of them.

So was it contrived? Sure was. Inorganic as the Colonel’s mashed potatoes? Yup. But the entire enterprise wouldn’t have been such a success if it wasn’t good. And much of it was.

Another thing. Question to the older.

Was there a point in your life, when you could not more regulate your bodyweight easily?
Yes. On average our metabolisms slow as we grow older, so it becomes more difficult for the body to maintain the same approximate weight even if your eating and exercise habits don't change. There's also a "shift" in the body's composition--muscle mass decreases and fat mass increases. Fat mass doesn't metabolize the way muscle mass does, so most of us get fatter as we grow older as well. If it's becoming a problem, the best things you can do are to start eating healthier foods (i.e., stay away from "junk" food) and get more exercise like taking a walk around the neighborhood after dinner every night.

I think the key was that they cast four young men who had the skills to make people believe they were The Monkees, and the four of them had a sort of oddball chemistry that worked perfectly for such a manic television show.

Exactly. Up until my mid-forties, I could eat anything and not gain weight. In my fifties I started putting on the pounds. To combat this, I started eating a lot healthier and I make an effort to be moderately active; usually this takes the form of a good, solid walk a few times a week. Oh, and limiting the size of my portions is important for me. I can no longer eat the massive quantities that I could eat a few decades ago. I am not a health extremist, but I try to at least be mindful about it. One good thing is that I no longer feel the need to have the build of an action hero or impress anyone. I’m trying to age gracefully, whatever that means.

Yesterday I listened to Simon & Garfunkle's Bookends album. When this album was released I was in high school. I remember getting a hall pass excusing me from study hall to go to the school library. I would listen to that album for the hour until the next class.
I'm now closing in on the age of the "old friends", less than two years and I'll know "how terribly strange it is to be seventy". Oh, and I now have the high shoes with the round toes, too.

As a youngster, I didn't like Camembert with Green Pepper(corns).
As a youngster, I didn't like classic style "mustard cucumbers".
As a youngster, I didn't like...
:D

But one thing never changed. I still prefer savoury dishes over sweet stuff, all the time! :)

How do you combat eczema?
I'm using "Dead Sea Salve" for my hand eczema, actually. It seem to do a really good job, like I heared from other people on the net. First, the salt brings more itching, but not for long and the eczema calms totally down.

…you can remember that you needed to buy a beer-voucher to get access to such movie theaters here cause the owners were not permitted to take entrance fees, making such movies perusable.
