Wait a minute, there's a season called summer? What is this "summer"? All we have here is 5 months of rain, followed by 4 months of more rain, and then another 3 months of rain.

Lot of angry people in the UK. "We won't go abroad because a) the economy is bad and b)it's bad for the climate. Don't worry, it'll be a nice summer here. No chance of 6 weeks of solid rain."

When you have to tear out the dead plants in the garden and plant the fall ones! We have year round growing season, but replenishment is necessary.

When I hear the shrieking of kids in the school up the block at 10 am, 12 and 3 pm everyday...like clockwork.

When I finally unpack all the stuff from the back to back madness of the Queen Mary and the Gatsby Summer Afternoon...

When I vacuum out the 6 inches of accumulated cat hair from the floor heater...

When you can sleep without the roar of fans.
When you don't have to exercise in an 82-degree room.
When flowers in pots don't wilt if they go a day without water.
When you can take a walk at lunch without sweating.

You can start wearing a tye again , and bottom your top button without fear.

You can take your cardigian sweaters out of the wardrobe to wear once more.

You turn off the ac. you can put the snow tires in ready mode.

Summer is over when I'm only slightly less sweaty from my walk to campus than before, and when I can reasonably consider getting a coffee that isn't iced. But those things don't usually start happening until well into October!

When the very clean, very shiny school hall floors which you've been walking on, mostly alone, for three months now have sandwiches smooshed into them. :(

When the thought of wearing a sundress to work is quickly replaced by something more sensible and professional.

When my tiny office is only 98 degrees as opposed to 110.

When you realize the bag of winter/early spring clothes you meant to take the the great vintage cleaners across town is still sitting behind the couch.

it wasn't meant to be taken literally....
although i think thats the words the weatherman used when he said it was going to do nothing but rain all summer.
Apparently it was supposed to getnice again in September.
He lied.

I was hoping I could bring out the trenchcoat and hat again, but it's still too hot. Plus the Tube is always around 40 degrees, regardless of any outside weather. Gosh, I do miss getting the trains instead of the tube.
