... in a hat

84% of women prefer men in hats.

Or so this NYC subway advertisement claims.

That's a Stetson I'm wearing. But when it comes to fedoras, I prefer a Knox Twenty-Five or one of my Whippets.

This could be a fifty year old photo... old train, old ads... are they filling empty ad sign space with vintage ads?

You know, I went back and looked, and you right - there are no obvious clues. My wristwatch is covered (it is a Seiko chronograph, which makes a 1960 vintage unlikely) and the Chesterfield and hat don't date the photo. Neither does the haircut! Shirt collar is hidden and sweater too generic.

Photo was taken last weekend - at the Transit Museum in Brooklyn, NY.

This was a stop after having a few great cocktails at a pre-prohibition style bar in Brooklyn, The Clover Club.

Love the photos you posted. Funny you should say that about your Seiko. In the sixties, my Mom was buying knitwear for a Dept. store in NYC and made her first trips to the Orient. She fell for Hong Kong and started bringing back all kinds of stuff she found that wasn't available in New York... Everyone who invited me to their Bar Mitzvah got a Minolta 16mm miniature camera. But the adults clamored for the Seiko chronometers. They were styled after Rolexes - clones, really... and they were very inexpensive. I have a box of them. They always say 1960's to me.

Funny you should say that about Seiko watches. They WERE NOT Rolex clones, in fact the firm was making wristwatches almost 25 years BEFORE Rolex ever existed. They also developed and marketed the FIRST quartz watch in 1969 and almost destroyed the Swiss watch industry. I still have a Seiko handwind watch my grandfather got me for High School graduation back in 1965 and it still keeps excelent time ! In fact, Seiko BEAT the Swiss in the Chronometer trials of the late '60s so badly the Swiss changed the rules to NOT allow non Swiss watches in 1970. They do sell inexpensive watches, but then Rolex sells OVER PRICED watches as well ( I have 8 vintage Rolexe's in my collection as well as othe Swiss watches, so I'm not anti Swiss, just anti misinformation :) )

Remove the color and you could probably fool people.
