I have cotton drill in 2 Simmons Bilt variants. Olive in a Nebrasaka , red in a J100. Both jackets are black goat.

I probably "prefer" it to the pillowed lining in some of my Schott jackets. Although I am still a big Schott fan.

Mostly I wear long sleeves , as sun protection once the jackets are off at the end of a ride, so don't notice "stiction"

I have come round to preferring the cotton drill in most jackets. My first *leather* jacket from Aero (my frist Aero was a Waterfront) I ordered with wool - the Blair tartan (a nice novelty as my mother's family were Blairs), but it has gotten mothed and I'm now looking ta having it relined in the body - probably with the blue drill. The sleeves were done in moleskin - nice, but it does limit the temperatures at which it can be worn. Equally, I found with my Wested Indy that the sleeves will stick to my arms long before the body is too hot - I definitely prefer the breathability of cotton over synthetics in the sleeve, and I've never found it 'grabby'.

Wool and such are nice for a jacket that you want to wear for Winter; when comes the time for my Barnstormer, I'll have to choose between blanket wool and moleskin for a Winter coat. In terms of a waist length leather jacket that I'll throw on in Spring, Autumn and for as much of Summer as I can, drill cotton is the stuff.

I want the jacket to be versatile, so a thinner liner is preferable; I'll just wear a thin sweater or even a v-neck sweater vest when the temperatures get cooler.

If I go with the Aero HB, an olive cotton drill body and olive sateen would be a great solution, as I would order the olive drab contrast stitching for a dark brown jacket. They already let me know that they won't use a liner that I provide, so sateen would be noìice and slippery...

I posed the same question in an e-mail to Simmons Bilt, but they have yet to respond. I have access to Italian 79 to 113 gm./sq. meter Cupro Bamberg lining in many "designer" patterns, not just solids. If they are willing to use a liner that I provide, it would allow me to make a truly custom jacket.

Anyone know what to expect from 'brushed cotton'? Is it as good as cotton drill? i.e. as comfortable, breathable, and durable?

Durability should be similar. Brushed cotton is just cotton that has a 'fluffier' feel to it, like you get on a pair of cotton flannel pyjamas. It will be to all intents and purposes the same with just a slightly different feel. I also perceive it as bring just slightly warmer, but that may well by psychosomatic.

Thanks! Simmons Bilt added it to their lining options recently. They have it in burgundy and if it is indeed softer as well, then it looks like a pretty interesting lining choice.

I wound think it would be "grabby" to cotton shirts, such as flannel, or sweaters. If you plan to wear primarily microfiber/polyester shirts under it, it may be no issue. I've had this issue with zip-up sweatshirts with "brushed cotton" linings, then tend to pull on your shirt.
