Y'2 Leathers

Newbie here, so apologies for any dumb questions in advance! Does anyone have any experience with Y'2 Leathers? I'm looking for a light-to-midweight jacket, preferably in horsehide. They seem to specialize in that category and have some nice looking leathers / designs. They look like they've been around for awhile, but I'm not finding much on their brand TFL. I've been eyeing their Cossack jacket design -- something that I can wear to the office post-COVID.

I’ve got their take on the type II in rough out steer. Wonderful jacket. They seem to fit western sizes well too. This is a 42” and I am 5’11 210lbs. The jacket is very well put together and always gets a compliment when I wear it.

Very nice - does it repel rain? Or stain? Fit is fantastic.

I can afford more, just a question of whether I want to, haha. I would imagine that horsehide will vary in how "hard" it is? I read CXL, for instance, is very thick and takes a long time to break in, but I would imagine that other leathers will be much more supple?

^^ yes, shinki for example doesn't have a physical break in compared to CXL though a lot of people prefer to break in their jacket? Also a lot of makers offer a mid weight hide so it's up to your personal preference, local climate and how you want to wear your jacket.

I have bought over twenty leather jackets. most of them from japan. If you could afford a jacket cost $1500, you should save money for the one cost $2500, because that's already the top. Even if you buy this jacket, you wont be satisfied with this and soon you would find a better one. This journey is insteresting, but not necessary.

not just supple, the quality you would find, is far better than this one. Companies like y2 and Fine creek dont have access to top quality horsehide. Their cutting is typical japanese style. Whats the point if you spend $1500 but you dont enjoy the 100% of it.

A treasure deserves its expense. Go for the top brands. Freewheelers, Real Mccoy, Himel Bros, Eastman, Himel Bros, Rainbow Country or you could contact Thedi or Bill Kelso to make one for you using Shinki horsehide. They can offer this service.

My advice is very biased but based on my past three years experience.

I disagree. I can afford $2500 jackets but personally I draw the line somewhere around $1750. It's the law of diminishing returns. Those extra $750 don't deliver $750 extra worth of perceived quality.

I've spent $1000 or less, and enjoyed 200% out of it. I think a lot of people don't need high stitch count, French seams, Shinki horsehide and what have you to enjoy the crap out of their jackets.

I think whether the brands on this list are worth the extra money depends on what you personally believe are quality signifiers. If you like to pay extra for a well known brandname, Eastman deserves the place on your list. If you're looking for the best build quality, I'm not sure whether Eastman is "a treasure that deserves it's expense".

what should i write in reply...i would not label these replies as internet trolls but hmm..
if you constantly follow the market of japanese leather jacket, the price is surging. for example, freewheelers mulholland rise from $2000 to $2500 in the past few years. Its getting more expensive. The earlier you buy, the cheaper.
Then whats the point that you draw the line on $1750 or $2500. Different brand set different prices. Last year you could pay $1750 for Rainbow country 1930s, A2, Real Mccoy Buco J-100, this year you could only have Fine creek or double helix for this money. In China we are easier accessible to japanese leather jackets than western countries. If one cannot buy from the official website, the retail price in western should be 10-15% higher than that in China.

And I doubt if you have done some research on these brands and their jackets.
in recent years fine creek has constantly released new jackets of all classic types, brakeman, crosszip, j100, and they have started a new brand for top-end market, fountainhead. but the quality of fcl jacket is poor, lack of details, its cutting is straight, long body length, long sleeve length and narrow shoulder. it does not fit to most people with V-shape body or inverted-V shape. The sleeves is straight from top to bottom, with no gradual transition. The upper arm would feel tight. The hide is poor with some awkard vertical grain. These vertical grains normally found in deer skin constantly show on fcl jacket. The only reason is that they use poor hide. However the price is surging. People are paying high price for garbage they don't need. What should I say about this? Shall I say something to take care of its western dealers? Very young and good brand, affordable price, should definitely buy one and burn it?

eastman, i bought 4 a-2 jackets from eastman this year. Before that I only bought motocycle jacket. For eastman, you spend $1500 for a new a-2 jacket, it is new, thick coating and plain. if you pay $3000, you would have a vintage a-2 jacket, with back painting, strong wrinklings, creases on the hide. Time-worn finish on the jacket to make it more vintage like a wii jacket from museum. They have stories behind each jacket for to explore. Different contract number from the RoughWear company.

It is truth that how much you pay for the jacket does not correlate with the happiness and satisfaction you yield from this jacket. But if you choose japanese brands, go for the top brands. Just go for the top brands, please don't buy garbage. Do the research yourself, compare the size chart, their details, their hides, the design, the stories and histories they pitch and the pics people wear jackets on instagram, you would have better understanding on these brands and the market.

This is just jumping on the hype bandwagon. I don't buy my jackets as investment pieces, hoping/expecting the price will go up. If that's what you're after thats totally fine of course but that's a whole other discussion. It has nothing to do with quality.

Then whats the point that you draw the line on $1750 or $2500. Different brand set different prices.

Because for me, spending any $ amount above that doesn't give me the equal amount of extra enjoyment out of my jacket. Of course the turning point is arbitrary, it may be 1500 or even 1900 if I really like some particular jacket. But more importantly this turning point is different for everybody and imo it has nothing to do with whatever price a brand sets for their jackets.

What's your point here? That some brand is increasing their prices even though the quality remains the same? When following your logic, that means I should rather buy early while it's still cheap :D

I think you have misunderstood my point. I never treat buying jacket as an investment. But I found you care too much about the relationship between the price and the theory you value. I have to say there is nothing to do with that, neither your economic theory or your life moto. I went to university i know that economic shit. But I advise you to do some research on the jacket, know about the jacket before talking about yourself. it is about the jacket, not you.

This is not about me. This is about the amount of money one is willing to spend on a jacket.

Your statement:
If you could afford a jacket cost $1500, you should save money for the one cost $2500

The question is, why should one save their money and buy a $2500 jacket.

I think you have misunderstood my point.

So enlighten me, what is your point?

well, you are that persistent.
because cheap horsehide leather jacket in japan is garbage, understand? do i have to repeat?
you keep asking and never dig out the answer. I told you it is not worth the price. do you understand???
whats wrong with you.
This people spend $1000-$1500 to buy a jacket from oversea. It turns out to be poor cutting, lack of details, poor hide. Why should they waste this money on the piece of shxt. Or this is the first time you get in touch with Japanese leather jacket and you are rich enough of exploring the journey. Okay starting from the bottom, I give you that.
$2500 is, indeed, a large amount of money for most of the people. But its far better than spending $1000-$1500 to buy a piece of shxt.
Can you go and check out my previous posts, my jackets? Or you check out the website I gave on my last reply. Whats wrong with you?
I gave you the source and told you to go find out the fact yourself, and you stick on the forum keep asking me.

I don’t have much to add to your points. Just jumping in to say obviously you’re no troll and a long time respected member here; and secondly I totally agree with your points. @puiyc1203 is entitled to his opinions as well. Nothing wrong with that. But just seems a bit hostile and entitled. Some jacket superiority complex maybe? In any case I agree with the majority of your points. And again the other poster can have theirs , ain’t nothing wrong with the ideas and theories. Everyone has theirs. Just seems hostile ha.

Can you stop saying “what’s wrong with you?” That’s very hostile and insulting. You have your opinion and that’s fine. But I wouldn’t insult/attack another member here for having a different opinion. You can totally have yours that’s fine. We all are entitled to that. But there’s nothing wrong with thinking differently. Your opinion is not a fact. Your not the ultimate arbiter of truth.

Personally I have stopped subscribing to the notion that a jacket (or any item in a sense) has to be at a specific price point to be of a certain “quality”. We have discussed this ad nausea before and in my own collecting experience the ratio just hasn’t bore any fruit. I could legitimately argue with greater ease to the opposite.
Setting a limit, as Marc states, for diminishing returns is exactly where the value/satisfaction curve intersects. For example, would crown sprung zippers on my LW’s given me proportionately more joy in ownership related to cost, surely for me, the answer is no. It might be yes for others but you see the point.
With regard to the hides, piece of shit? No. The stretch marks referenced in the FC jackets are actually sought out and quite desirable to some folks. I think that’s a bridge too far to call them shit.
Pattern and fit are the same way. If you do not like a certain pattern or it doesn’t suit your body type, then that’s one thing. Calling them poorly made is unjust. We’ve seen these jackets posted here on actual members (not phony, retouched and filtered IG) and they do not look cheap or of poor quality.
I personally find a large swath of the Japanese market to be purely hype. I promptly sold or returned both my RMC jackets. One was so bad I wouldn’t dare post pictures here, and I’ve purchased some pretty awful stuff. As much as I like the Y’2 I posted above it is not as well built as Aero, SB, LW etc and I dare say it is even a tier below the 5 Star jacket I paid $300 for, some $500 less than the Y’2.

I am sorry that I have been rude on these and I am annoyed of questions he keep asking. I dont mean to insult anyone.
I could write a very detailed post compare the jackets from different brands. Anyway I hope that I could provide some useful source for guys to know more about the jackets.
you are right, we value different opinions. thanks for standing out
