WWII Navy Elgin stopwatch

This was my grandpa's stopwatch from when he was a radarman in the Pacific theater. He was also the ship's unofficial photographer, and this was kept with his old cameras in the basement. I wish I could post some of the photos he took, but my Uncle Sonny has the album right now. His ship was involved with the capture of the disguised gunrunner Tachibana Maru, and has a lot of pictures from that and other events during the war.

Unfortunately, the stopwatch doesn't work, but it is in otherwise good shape, and it has its original case. I'd like to get it repaired, but that'll have to wait until I have a little disposable income.

That is a very pretty watch Nick D. Have you thought about taking it somewhere to be worked on?

I have a passion for vintage watches and stop watches myself. I only own a couple myself what with being a poor college student right now; and it can be an expensive hobby. Though among my small collection, my two prized watches are a ca: 1904 Waltham 18size pocket watch, and a ca: 1958 Benrus Dial-o-rama wristwatch.

I don't ever wear battery operated watches anymore; I've gotten used to hearing the mechanical ticking, and can't live without it!

I can't seem to get anything repaired. I have three watches out right now, which are admittedly not top of the line, but I like them and want them to be reliable. They've been looked at by four repairmen, and they all say they aren't worth fixing. They all do run, just somewhat erratically. Maybe an Elgin will be judged worthy.

I love old timepieces, too. I won't wear wristwatches anymore, I prefer pocketwatches. I like the style, and also wristwatches don't stand up to the shock from hammer and anvil (I'm a blacksmith, and shock is transfered through both wrists).
