lol60F day time, if that. And it's chucking down. I will be switching back to the Dustbowl if it keeps raining like this - saves jumping into the shower with it on!

I can't actually recall meeting anybody wearing an A2 in my neck of the woods either. Just the envious glances of other males when I wear mine.I don't think I've ever met another person wearing an A-2, but maybe that's down to where I live. [huh]
I remember when I got my first A-2 - I got the "Indiana Jones" crap from day-one. But I don't see many A-2's unless we're at an event (reenacting).
It was the whip and golden amulet you were carrying with you that was the big give away, though, wasn't it?A colleague once referred to my "Indy gear" - that day, an Aero USN AN6552, and a narrow-brimmed brown trilby/fedora. lol
I'm not a big fan of the A-2 ( unusually for here) ... and elastic bootm and cuff jackets in general ... with the possible exception of the USN single weave jackets ( and even then it's a love hate thing). So for that reason and the reasons of stylistic preference I'd go Luftwaffe. The Eastman Hartmann or Luftwaffe come up quite regularly on ebay and you should be able to pick one up. They're very practical and can be worn in a variety of guises ( like the A-2) and they're superbly made.
HTH
I want one someday. A unique jacket, and I'm sure it's very useful.Actually, yes, an ANJ-3 is an excellent compromise. A bit different, but the bi-swing back makes a more forgiving fit.
