I knew a man who worked at At The Front, and came to work in my town. I got to know him pretty well, and anything I couldn't source, or couldn't have made for me in time to fill a contract, I'd get from At The Front, because they did everything right, even though we were competing somewhat. They did more re-enactor stuff, I did close to 100% period, for collectors and sets. He didn't work there anymore when I met him, but turned me on to their products for what its worth.
I bring you the Decatur plain toe from Johnston and Murphy. There may not be enough holes for the long laces we desire... and yes there is something to that look of rows of holes, but this shoe will have to do. What it has against it it makes up for in comfort.
And the last is pretty darn good with that 'lots of toe room' design.
