WW2 Uniform
Hello - would anyone be able to tell me what uniform this is. The photos is old and dark so this is the best i can get it.
I am searching for the person in the photo, but knowing what uniform he is wearing may just help.
If this is not the correct forum - are there any others in the USA that may be able to help?
Many Thanks

Yes, by order of the Sec. of Defense on 9/26/47 personnel of the Army AF were transferred to the Department of the Air Force.

That was the date of the order, but the nuts and bolts of the separation mostly occurred in 1948. Seldom does anything move with alacrity in the military.

Or 1957,
by continued use of Army clothes.

DSK, the lack of sharpness in the photo makes it tough to be sure, but the epaulets suggest that the subject is not an enlisted man and I think I make out a Captain's bars on the collar. My guess would be an Army Captain, though the Marine Corps might also be the branch of service. Hope that helps.

If you are referring to the picture with three people in it, the man in the center is definitely an officer. The hat device and the "US" on the collar are definitive. Plus, he is wearing flight crew wings, probably aviator wings, but they could be for a navigator or a bombardier, all officer positions. Given his young age, I would say a first lieutenant or a captain. With the OLC on his ribbons, more likely a captain.
