FWIW, I own a size 44 and love it. Have you checked the Japanese proxy sites? You might be in luck given the size your looking for.

These are sites that proxy sales between American/European buyers and Japanese sellers. I use From japan and Buyee. These are legit sites that will charge you a small fee for the deal.

Here's a size 38 that will run you about $800 shipped.

Edit to add the size 38 is an auction and not BIN, so it might cost a little m

Oh wow thank you so much for that, I'll definitely be on the lookout for that one! On a side note since you own one yourself, what do you think is a good deal for this jacket? I'm in Germany and If I order one from outside of the EU I'll also have to account for a 20% customs fee. Ideally, I'd have to find one that is is around 800€ incl. shipping, so I'll end up paying around 1000€ in total. Anything higher might not be really worth ordering since there's a shop in Germany that is selling it for 1450€. Do you think 800€ is realistic for this jacket?

Yes, I think 800 is realistic. The bids may not come in for the one I linked to. I purchased mine used with the epaulets cut off for USD 700.

They give you a few inches of ease. A 44 is roughly 23 inches wide at the chest There are reviews on here with more details.

This chart is accurate IMO

This is awesome. Thank you- in my vanson comet- my regular rising jacket the shoulders are 18” with the chest at 21/22. I believe it is a 38. Given that, and my hold harmless clause to you, what size would you suggest? TIA.

I wouldn't compare makers as the patterns differ. I wear a 42 in most Vanson's and a 44 in Y'2. Get a soft measuring tape and have someone assist you with your current measurements. Get shoulder-to-shoulder, chest circumference at the widest, hem (waist), sleeve length, and body length from the base of the neck to your waist. Ideally, you'll want some ease with the shoulder, chest, and hem measurements so you're not stuffed into a jacket like a sausage.

I do own a HR-55 in size 40(I go 38 in most EU/USA-clothing, but 40 in Japanese size) and here are the measurements so you have something to go on, it's a great piece of leather imo :)
You may have to use google to get them to freedom numbers hehe.

My very not professional measurements :D

P2P: 54cm
Hem: 49cm
Shoulders: 44cm
Length(back): 59cm
Length(front): 64cm
Arm(going by the outside): 65cm

Based on my experience, Vanson tends to run a bit roomier with a bit more chest ease (e.g. C2)

A size 38 Y'2 HR-55 would likely not fit like a Vanson C2 in size 38.

I wear Vanson Cycle King size S which is more like the size 36 C2 except that the C2 is slightly shorter and has a bit more taper at the hem.

I wear size 38 Schott 613SH which is a slim fit with just bi-swings on the back

I tried on a size 40 Y'2 HR-55 and I found it to be a bit too big. I can make it work with a hoodie or sweatshirt underneath but overall it's just not as snug as I like it to be.

I am inclined to think that size 40 might be closer to your fit based on your 18" shoulder and 21/22" chest measurements.

So I ordered a new one from the shop in size 38 just to try it out and see if 38 is actually the size I need. Everything seems to be the right length except it's kind of tight around the armpits. Is this something that would get stretched out and shape out with wear or is it a sign of it being too small? Also, can I ask how tall you are since you own one in 40?

Ah, didn't see you were selling yours. Now I'm kind of tempted to buy it off of you haha. But I'm still not sure what size I actually need whether 38 or 40 or if my body is just not made for that jacket as I have kinda wide shoulders which may be causing the discomfort under the armpits. But thank you for the info I might contact you again if I decide 40 is the right choice! :)

Leather does not stretch so if your armpits areas are tight, then they will always be tight. The leather will get broken in after you wear it for a while and it kind of molds to your body with creases and folds that conform to your body. But the jacket will not get roomier.

It sounds like you need a size 40 or another jacket with different pattern that fits your body shape. Something with more chest ease and more taper like the Vanson C2 perhaps.
