I'm seeing it this weekend and can't wait. I'd paid zero attention until people started the rave reviews. WWI? Action? DC? Planes? ROBIN WRIGHT? I'm IN.

Saw it earlier this week in a Regal Premium Theatre (RPX). It's not IMAX but it ain't regular either. Two tix cost me 40 bucks! Must say it's a "good" story, far better than most recent D.C. film offerings but still not as enjoyable as any of the Marvel Avengers back story films. It probably will mean more to some audiences than it did to me, cause she certainly is one womanly badass, but all in all I wouldn't call it "great". I've spent more and seen worse though...

As a military historian I'd say they got most of the WWI gear right with maybe one glaring exception. I'm pretty sure there'd be few to none Eindeckers laying around so late in the war.

It's INCREDIBLE. My daughter and I went to see it over the weekend. We loved it so much. I can't wait to watch it again. We will, of course, buy the DVD.

To see the Amazonian women kick MAJOR butt and then to see Princess Diana, aka Wonder Woman, kick even more butt was a pleasure to watch. As a woman, I loved this female empowerment after seeing so many female superheroes get the short shrift of everything (I'm looking at YOU, Marvel, and your treatment of Black Widow!).

I only just found out here that it's set during/around WW One -- I had no idea it was a period piece. Maybe I'll want to see it now.

Tunisia is now joining Jordan and Lebanon in the boycott of this film, because they don't want to allow their people to see Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress who plays Wonder Woman. Why not?!

Melissa, go a bit easier on the Marvel crew. I think Natasha Romanoff has been a great character even without a dedicated film of her own - she's virtually the co-star of CA:The Winter Soldier. And let's give them credit for already having given Agent Carter and Jessica Jones their starring TV series ahead of any other female-fronted superhero projects.

I plan to see Wonder Woman this weekend. I suspect that I'll feel as Worf does - that it's the best DC film since Nolan's Batman series... But that's not really saying all that much. Thus far, the DC characters were handled with far greater intelligence and finesse by the old Dini/Timm animated series (B:TAS, S:TAS, BB, JL, JLU) than they're getting in mega-budget live action!

I wanted to see it anyway, but the period piece aspect kicked my interest level up a lot as well.

My daughters are about to turn 9 and 11 - any issues with taking them to see it? We have introduced them to the Marvel films, and they saw the Guardians film that just came out, so we are thinking it is okay, but your thoughts AG?

Yeah, I know about that. Honestly, not having Black Widow MERCHANDISE is a problem? That's the fault of the assorted manufacturers and Marvel's marketing arm being short-sighted and sexist, not the filmmakers. Let's keep criticism of the movies separate from how their parent corporations handle "ancillary revenue streams".

As far as how the character is written and portrayed... I think Scarlett and the assorted writers and directors have done fine. And although there's no Black Widow feature on the schedule yet, keep in mind that what happens beyond the next two Avengers films is still wide open: with the senior actors (Downey, Evans, Hemsworth, etc.) having their six- (or whatever) film contracts run out and their price tags go way up, look for "secondary" characters to come to the fore. That is: I wouldn't be surprised if Natasha takes over for Cap and is LEADING the Avengers in films made in the next decade.

I think they will be okay with it. Not a lot of gruesome stuff. If were okay with Guardians 2, they'll be just fine with Wonder Woman.

One of my youngish friends -- she's almost thirty -- is an avid comic book reader, loves superhero/fantasy movies and TV shows (I saw WW with her), and even plays fantasy role-playing D&D type games. But she doesn't buy merch -- no figures, prop replicas, gimcracks or gewgaws. Not even t-shirts. It seems like nearly all this type of stuff is manufactured for and marketed predominantly to men.

I've seen a few superhero films, The Dark Knight and Iron Man and one or two others and I just found them heavy handed and lacking substance. Not terrible, but far from enjoyable to my taste. I find it very difficult to stay awake during special effects sequences since they are so implausible and bombastic. Maybe I lack the gene that allows me to suspend disbelief.

They'll be fine. Not a lot of gore... and blood and little to no overt cussing. This ain't "Deadpool".

Slightly off the subject but I really get a kick out of watching Scarlett Johanssen and Robert Downy work. Their styles are utterly opposite. He's all classic movie star, Clark Gable, just hitting the high points, having a good time and making it all look effortless. This is not the way he has done everything in his career but it seems to be part of Tony Stark. She's totally into every detail, every minuscule reaction her imagination can create. I was joking with a friend of mine who's in Visual Effects that the CGI crew would have to put in extra effects to explain away some of the nuances of her performance in her action scenes. The woman works her butt off and he just saunters through a scene. The weird thing is it works, it fits both of their characters.

Acting with heavy CGI is like doing radio, only the most imaginative actors do it well and it really separates out those who don't build themselves a complete world. I'm looking forward to seeing Wonder Woman but I probably wouldn't bother if it wasn't a period movie.

BTW, have I got this wrong or is Black Widow supposed to have been KGB? If so wouldn't she be getting kind of long in the tooth or is she also one of these immortal characters who somehow has sprung from the past? Or is she just looking good for a gal in her 40s?

They haven't explained that. Agent Carter started to open up more information about the program, and it may be the USSR's version of the super soldier serum extends your life. Similarly, they've never addressed whether Nick Fury fought in WWII as in the comics.
