Women's Vintage/Repro Leather Jackets

Where can I buy a good vintage-look leather jacket for Mrs. Trog? I'm interested in browsing flight jackets, or perhaps something in a three-quarter length "Amelia Earhart" look.

I have looked at Eastman's and Aero's sites, but didn't find much.

Belstaff's Howard Lady Jacket (http://www.shop.belstaff.com/index....ady-Jacket.html?a=/1/pid/24370/frmCatID/1318/) makes a good impression, but is this the only choice in all of the web's vintagedom?

I have been wearing repro leather jackets over modern clothing for some time, and it's neat how "vintage" often looks a lot like "super modern!" Given the financial outlay, she might appreciate something similar.

Welcome, Trog.

I believe Aero are able to make a Lady's version in many of their styles.
They are probably the only source for a well styled vintage repro jacket in
a Lady-fit. I'm sure they can alter to suit, they have experienced ladies swing their jackets and know how to adapt for the correct fitting- they do a lot of custom work and altering of their styles. Alterations to the pattern to allow for down-sizing, bust and waist are surely within their capabilities.
Make sure though and give thorough instructions and useful measurements.

Aero jackets are quite good as far as vintage styling and detailing goes.
Modern Belstaff leathers are lacking in materials, vintage fitting, etc.
They have become something like a "designer label"- the high price and low utility add up to bad value, in my opinion.

Yes, vintage styling is classic with good proportion and fit(especially with a custom jacket) and surpasses "fashion".

Somebody makes a copy of Amelia Earheart's jacket, I don't remember who. She is photographed in what looks like an A2 with big pockets (maybe just because she was small) and also wore a longer mid-thigh double breasted coat with a belt.

She also is wearing very high lace-up boots in one photograph (slide show here http://www.style.com/beauty/icon/051107ICON/

US Wings makes an A-2 tailored for women as well. And I'm sure Aero could make whatever size and tailoring you wanted.

I had read in other threads that Aero was very patient with custom details, hadn't made the leap to that level of customization.

You both have likely helped me put a smile on her face (and justified a few more of my purchases)!

The up-end makers are not catering to women because interest in this market niche - leather that is both classically styled and built to last - is practically 100 per cent male.

It's not that ladies don't enjoy good leather. But there are fewer of them; almost none build an entire casual wardrobe around it; and most are satisfied with fashion offerings or, in the case of the lady rider, modern moto-wear.

German upmarket department store Manufactum makes a nice looking and extremly well made horsehide women's jacket. It's quite waisted and slim fitting. Their horsehide is aniline dyed and veg tanned.

John Chapman makes an Amelia Earhart jacket. It's called the Electra.
