I know this thread started as women wearing men’s hats, but as it has expanded I thought it’s the right place to add this: I can recall my sisters and mother wearing hats to church on Easter, and my paternal grandmother wore hats every Sunday, but it seems that congregations at predominantly black churches hat wearing stayed common longer, and is still not uncommon to see them. I really like what a hat adds to church attire. These women know how to wear hats!

I used to do some December crappie fishing from an aluminum john boat. We always had a fire bucket going in the boat but would still wear plenty of clothing & insulated boots. I always knew if someone fell in you would go straight to the bottom.

February 1980 living on a sailboat docked at Woods Cove Marina in Stuart, FL. We’d had a late night out and returned to the boat. As I was stepping aboard the tide took the boat just far enough from the dock that my first step to the boat was on air and the second was in water. Dressed in my usual uniform, I went straight to the bottom. With my boots full it was a struggle to surface. The drunks on the dock and boat were pretty useless in assisting with my rescue. The nearest ladder was on the transom of a boat four berths away that I was finally able to make my way to.

When I first saw this photo the black lid on the lady's coffee cup made it look as if she had a thick black mustache. It took a couple of seconds for me to realize that wasn't the case.

Wellalrightythen...! @deadlyhandsome and @Frunobulax have opened a whole new (to some) world of lady’s hats we have yet to explore. I wonder if there should be some discretion between “Women Wearing Hats,” and “Lady’s Hats...”

The town where I’ve lived for the past 40 years has transitioned (via “red-lining,” allegedly) to one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse in the world. We have a population of around 30,000 people speaking 60 different languages!
So, hats are still huge, thanks in no small part to the South American, Caribbean, and African immigrants here. Then there are also folks of African-American descent, bringing their own styles to the street. We see some breathtakingly stunning ladies in hats styled from all over the world around here. Especially Sundays!
The only photo below actually snapped here in town was taken at my son’s High School graduation, but when a COUPLE dresses as a couple, it’s noteworthy. Otherwise, the photos are web-sourced examples of hat styles seen here on our streets. Except for Carmen Miranda...
