We got another 5" today in Boston--it was really beautiful to look at, heavy, wet snow that stuck to all the tree branches and swirled down most of the day in big fat flakes (I forgot my camera though so no pictures, alas).

I went to the p.o. earlier today and thought it felt almost cold enough, came home and saw it was below 30 and heard it was snowing in Maple Valley (5 miles east) but so far nothing here. We had some a month ago, and I'm crossing my fingers we get some before Christmas. But Barbigal might be shaking her fist at me because she has to go over one of the lower passes 10 miles from here (it's snowing on Tiger Mountain!) to get to work. I need to get snow on the new Akubra Federation, right?

It was an expensive traffic jam, I sat in traffic for 20 minutes on Hwy 18 then turned around and went to the outlet mall!

Starius, he means SR-18.

Make you a deal, hope for it only after my plane's wheels-up for Vegas, and it's clear when I catch my plane back, and I'll agree with you--but if your snow interferes with my itinerary, we got a beef...

US HWY 18 goes all the way to Washington, does it?

Hmmm, I thought I knew where it ended on each end in Washington state. It start east-west in Snoqualmie and goes to Federal Way where it becomes a street that if I remember correctly end at the water. (the Pacific water)

We got a really, really light dusting last night - the fun part being that it immediately melted on touching ground, shrubs, street & sidewalk, but my car sitting at the curb was the only thing around with any visible accumulation. But more predicted for tonight through tomorrow night...we'll see.

And Diamondback - it's a deal. The snow I get here (525') is no indication of what hits nor sticks lower or over at the airport. But Vegas was in the 30's last week from what friends reported.

Wow! You're north of the city aren't you? I always got clobbered with snow when I lived up there.

We had our first snow here Sat, a very thin layer that only stuck to cars and the ground, not the walks or streets. Surprising that we got any this time of year for this area.

So glad to see this thread bumped for this year! We just had our first dusting in New York Friday evening. It didn't stick, but it was very pretty.
Up in Chautauqua NY, where I grew up, they haven't seen the ground for a full month. Oy!

Apparently we had flurries of snow last night here in northwest Iowa, but I didn't see it and it all melted before it touched the ground. So I don't know if that counts or not.

(When we do get lasting snow, however, I will definitely take pictures.)

The rules clearly states: Snow has to "stick" in order to count!

Having moved to Indiana this year for college, I finally got to experience the first snowfall of the year.

My friends and I went out side, threw a snowball or two, went to the gas station for hot chocolate, came back inside and enjoyed our pipes whilst doing homework.

I bally love the stuff. It makes everything sparkly and clean looking (as long as it doesn't get brown and dirty). Walking through it is always fun and I love seeing my footprints in it.

A Funny Story Winter! Then reality sets in.

Dear Diary: New York Winters:

Aug. 12 - Moved into our new home in New York. It is so beautiful here.
The hills and river valleys are so picturesque. I have a beautiful old
maple tree in my front yard. Can hardly wait to see the change in the
seasons. This is truly God's Country.

Oct. 14 - New York is such a gorgeous place to live, one of the real
special places on Earth. The leaves are turning a multitude of
different colors. I love all of the shades of reds, oranges and
yellows, they are so bright. I want to walk through all of the
beautiful hills and spot some white tail deer. They are so
graceful, certainly they must be the most peaceful creatures on Earth.
This must be paradise.

Nov. 11 - Deer season opens this week. I can't imagine why anyone
would want to shoot these elegant animals. They are the very symbol of
peace and tranquility here in New York. I hope it snows soon. I love it
here!

Dec. 2 - It snowed last night. I woke to the usual wonderful sight:
everything covered in a beautiful blanket of white. The maple tree is
magnificent. It looks like a postcard. We went out and swept the snow
from the steps and driveway. The air is so crisp, clean and
refreshing. We had a snowball fight. I won, and the snowplow came down
the street. He must have gotten too close to the driveway because we
had to go out and shovel the end of the driveway again. What a
beautiful place. Nature in harmony. I love it here!

Dec. 12 - More snow last night. I love it! The plow did his cute
little trick again. What a rascal. A winter wonderland. I love it
here!

Dec. 19 - More snow - couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work
in time. I'm exhausted from all of the shoveling. And that snowplow!

Dec. 21 - More of that white shit coming down. I've got blisters on my
hands and a kink in my back. I think that the snowplow driver waits
around the corner until I'm done shoveling the driveway. ba***rd.

Dec. 25 - White Christmas? More freakin' snow. If I ever get my hands
on the SOB who drives that snowplow, I swear I'll castrate
him. And why don't they use more salt on these roads to melt this
crap??

Dec. 28 - It hasn't stopped snowing since Christmas. I have been
inside since then, except of course when that SOB "Snowplow Harry"
comes by. Can't go anywhere, cars are buried up to the windows.
Weather man says to expect another 10 inches. Do you have any idea how
many shovelfuls 10 inches is??

Jan. 1 - Happy New Year? The way it's coming down it won't melt until
the 4th of July! The snowplow got stuck down the road and the driver
actually had the gaul to come and ask to borrow a shovel! I
told him I'd broken 6 already this season.

Jan. 4 - Finally got out of the house. We went to the store to get
some food and a damn deer ran out in front of my car and I hit the
ba***rd. It did $3,000 in damage to the car. Those beasts ought to be
killed. The hunters should have a longer season if you ask me.

Jan. 27 - Warmed up a little and rained today. The rain turned the
snow into ice and the weight of it broke the main limb of the maple tree
in the front yard and it went through the roof. I should have cut it into fireplace wood when I had the chance.

May 23 - Took my car to the local garage. Would you believe the whole
underside of the car is rusted away from all of that damn salt they
dump on the road? Car looks like a bashed up, heap of rusted cow manure.

May 10 - Sold the car, the house, and moved to Florida. I can't
imagine why anyone in their freakin' mind would ever want to live in
the God forsaken State of New York.

We had a bit of snow last week, enough to make the roads a mess for the morning commute, but it was pretty much gone by the next day. We're under a winter storm warning for tonight, though, so I'm hopeful!
