Holy Crimony! Run fast to the car . Use the remote start function first so it will be warm at the end of run. :D ;)

It was six degrees this morning in Sweet, Sweet Boston. I wore my orange Moncler Himalaya jacket for which I earned the nickname from Spiely, "Le Grand Orange!" with all apologies to Mario Batalli. I was toasty. I kind of like this weather. [huh]

Brrrr....Is that -10 without the windchill?

21 degrees at 8 AM. 31 degrees at noon.

All the dogs slept indoors last evening but they all wanted out this morning.

Yeah, Boston is where people go out on 0 degree days and saunter down the block eating an ice cream cone. They last a lot longer that way, because they don't melt!

Cold weather fun.

Back in the late 70's a big cold front rolled thru NY state and up by Plattsburgh it was about 20 below maybe colder. It was the winter break between semesters and I was getting a ride home to Long Island with Pete McNiff in his 65 or so Valiant with the slant six engine. Pete lived about 2 towns over from mine so it was really not out of the way. It had snowed just before the front came thru and then the temps dropped like a stone. The plows had not gone out yet and we road along fairly slowly because we were in the two frozen sold tire tracks in the snow of the guy that went out sometime ahead of us. When he turned on of the off ramps Pete's car wanted to follow those tracks too, like we were on railroads tracks! There were pretty much no other cars on the road for the first hundred miles and the snow petered out.

It was so cold that we drove from Plattsburg (leaving a little before dawn) to just outside of Albany before the engine warmed up enough so the defroster worked! Thats about 150 miles and nearly 3 hours on the highway to warm up.

I was the working passenger all that time periodically clearing the ice off the inside of the windshield that was forming from the moisture in our breath.

Quite an exciting and unusual experience for me and memorable for the cold weather.

We went from close to 20 below to the mid 40's a few days ago.

We are having flooding as the iced over creeks overflow.

Chinook winds and higher temps aren't unusual in january but this spread of temps has been huge.

Fairbanks went from 60 below to similar high temps.

I am amazed at how many people are still in shorts or wear hoodies instead of jackets.

This drives me crazy. Our concession kids show up to work in t-shirts and light sweaters, and can't stop shivering -- and all I can think is GET A COAT, STUPID. But I never actually *say* it. Well, not as much as I'd like to, anyway.

It was -6 below this morning. The only heat in the upstairs of my house comes from one register located behind the bedroom door -- and my cat spent the whole night sleeping on it. She got plenty of heat, but it was actually too cold for me to sleep, even under two down quilts. I'd have gotten up to get a hot water bottle, but I was afraid it would freeze before I could get it into bed.

Burst water pipes warning.

For those in the big cold snap, you may wish to turn on your water faucets to a slow slow trickle, if there is a danger of your pipes freezing.

The trickle keeps the water moving and it's less likely to freeze and burst your pipes!

Yikes! At least its better to have your tongue stuck to an ice cream cone :) than to be the smarty pants with your tongue stuck to a metal lamp post

Brr, it's cold... other places!

This morning it was 30. Right now, it's 69. Relative humidity is 15%. One very dry winter down here. We've had 0.79" of rain in December and January combined, and we're having intermittent fire danger warnings when the wind rises.

It's 59 degrees at 6:48 PM.
Sunny is definitely right about the dearth of precipitation. Some communities in north TX are contemplating water restriction.
