Windsor's Overcoats

Only two in the auction catalogue i'm afraid. I may get around to posting some of the photographs in the catalogue featuring overcoats too . . .

WindsorOvercoats1.jpg

[ABOVE] Mislabelled in the catalogue as the overcoat he wore to his father's (George V) funeral. It is not. Photographed walking behind the hearse, Edward VIIIs overcoat only has Astrakhan facing to the collar, not the lapels. This made by Simpson & London Ltd. dated 2.11.34 Apparently given to him by "his old friend and equerry, General Trotter."

[ABOVE] DB navy wool greatcoat with Royal Yacht Squadron buttons, circa 1930. Ticket pocket in front and half-belt in back.

What a gorgeous coat--it looks almost "New Look"--I wonder if Mr. Dior took inspiration from this style?

I like my dress coats long too but for me anything longer than 50 inches is going to be picking up dirt and slush on most staircases. :eusa_doh:

Love the second one BK.

In fact I have saved the pic as I am thinking of having a new overcoat tailored and this is exactly the cut and style I am after.

Thanks muchly.
