It has in some ways. I have talked to many people who are into the look and age of that time. It's only a matter of pushing them into taking their interest further

if we are talking about women fashion, vintage is already here. It started quietly two years ago and now, we can find vintage inspired clothes in almost every designer's collection

I personnally think it's a good thing, waists are getting higher and dresses and accessories classier

Problem is, you don't see gals wearing them out on the street- but one can dream...

(Boy, I'm sick of seeing dames in low-riding blue jeans.)

In general?I don't think so, and here's why. I think vintage is so much more than just clothes or movies. It's a frame of mind, a way life, if not wholly, a good deal. But this is just my view.

It would definitely be great for the straight men and lesbians out there to see lots of vintage babes walking around, but for me, I like standing out!! ;)

I might be an alien or something, or living in a strange city, but I am really seing more and more people with a vintage influence in their style

ok, we're still far from majority, but it's really getting stronger each year

You are right, but fashion and movies are still part of vintage, and even if, like pigeon toe, I like to stand out, I like seeing people which I think look really chic and classy :)

(but I have to confess I might not be the one the more into vintage here, my interest to modern things is still very evident)

I agree. Golden Era style was a product of its time. I think modern culture (or are we post-modern right now?) will sample from the era, especially in terms of clothing or durable goods, but it will never be exactly the same.

For example - men's suiting will likely never be exactly the same, in terms of fabric weight. Like it or not, I've heard a very good argument that suits were heavy at the turn of the century because central heating was not as prevelant, nor as efficient. In addition, a man typically would only own a select few suits and get more useful life out of a garment. But that reasoning would not hold up in today's disposable culture (sigh). Nowadays, relatively inexpensive garments suit our tastes (thanks to cheap labor from developing countries), and people seek variety in their everyday wardrobe.

As a society, we have been on a continual trajectory of wanting things faster and more conveniently. If the information age is to be of any indication, I don't think that will die down soon.

well, we are also a product of our times, we won't be able to recreate the exact same circumstances as before. So I don't see the point of asking if vintage will be in pop culture again if what we understand of vintage is the exact recreation of the past

Vintage style is continually rehashed by designers desperate for new influences. They routinely comb the vintage shops looking for things to copy in cheap fabric.

Trends also come and go based on pop culture. In the seventies, there was a big influence from the popularity of bonnie and clyde, the glamour of the disco era and the popularity of the earlier part of the century due to the hippie interest in psycedelics (turn of the century, absinth etc) and blues, and back to the land, as well as the availability of all theat clothing in the used shops, so there was a big revival of the thirties forties style, but in cheap fabrics and such.

I remember the change in men's suits and womens clothing due to the swing revival and also the movie Evita. All these designers were knocking out cheap evita suits.

But we will never see a return to the quality of the era. That ship has sailed. And we will probably never see a return to more formal dressing. People are too used to being comfortable. If you compare any era, it pretty much is more casual and comfortable than the one before for the last thousand years. One day we will probably all be wearing togas.

Every other or third year I see the socalled "trendspotters" come up with headlines like: "The pilotjacket is hot!" And then they show some fashiondesigners version of the god ol' A2. But never the real thing!

Every few years it is also trendy to work vintage into a wardrobe. I have alot of respect or people who mix in various vintage into a modern style. Of course, it is often hyped as a way to save money, but the models end up wearing things from shops that get prices I could only dream about getting for anything vintage But to someone who usually pays designer prices, even jacked up vintage prices is a bargain.

It has gotten harder to sell a lot of newer vintage because it is so easily knocked of in new for cheap. I am thinking of seventies t-shirts, seventies pants etc.

Vintage is getting pretty au courant in my city, the only problem for me is that when I liked it back in junior high, waaaaayyyyyy before it was cool, I got picked on and teased the whole way through, after that I resolved never to follow the crowd, and now that vintage is being mauled by the 'fashionistas' in my city I'm slowly being turned off of vintage, just cause they're wearing it, improperly no less!!!!!

I cringe everytime I see a gorgeous vintage dress with those stupid 80's leggings, and marker slogans scrawled all over it.:rage:

It was only one girl with this particular 'taste' for marker but it was scary, I wanted to slug her for ruining a perfectly nice dress thoughlol
I'm in Calgary though, just so you can avoid us:D

Just remember, whether or not you see a man or a women nicely dressed doesn't mean they are nice. ;)

I am sure everyone in the 40's weren't all happy go lovely!

Wearing a suit or a dress, you have to also take care of it. Depending on the personality of the person, they could either tear it to shreds or leave it locked up.

Peak lapels are coming back. Not on people but on the shelves.

Exactly for somthing to be a fad, it obviously has to deal with the youth, because they are soo into "fabs"(follow the money) I also agree I don't think I would see vintage at the local teenager hangout(the Mall parking lot) but too many dress like Britney Spears. Thank goodness that fad is over.
