Wierd looks

As I was driving home today I noticed people were giving me wierd looks. Not uncommon here in So Cal then I realized my music was blaring. Years of not wearing hearing protection is finally catching up with me I guess. The music was big band vocalist and some swing. I guess they expected some 80 year old man ( Hey I'll be there in 30 years !). I think people forget the music was listened to once by kids.

I know exactly how you feel!
When i drive i also listen to my CDs rather loud, and i listen to 1920s and early 30s music mainly! Now, i close the windows and turn on the air con or the heat depending on the season. That way i know nobody is going to look at me funny!
It's their loss he he :)

I get some very unusual looks whenever I go through a drive through restaurant playing 1920s or 1930s music - though I remember once a fellow at a drive through window said he though my music was cool.

I often play tapes of late 1920s and early 1930s music in the car. I have gotten some strange looks at traffic lights too!

Now that the weather has *finally* become warm here, and I'm driving with the window down again, I'll have to remember to turn the volume down at stoplights.

With gas at $3 plus per gallon, I'm not planning on using much air conditionning this year.

Pardon me for being rash,

But the way I think, Listen to what you listen to the way you want to and if you get looks (As I have in similar situations) Phooey on them!

When my mother (who is struggling to understand her little retro-child) asks why I seem to not care about others opinion in that respect, I jokingly tell her (Using a line from an old Looney Tunes gag. "Silence is Foo." Thusly I get a look from her and we both laugh it off. She now pretty much sees it my way. (Laughter is an amazing bridge that way.)lol

I agree with the phooey on them sentiment!!

I blare 20s/30s/40s music right next to Public Enemy, Rick Astley, Gene Vincent, Hall & Oates, Screeching Weasel, and even music from the turn of the 20th century (among many, many others ;) ) I'm sure I'm getting weird stares from people in here as they read this lol

yah who gives what people think...don't be ashamed to blast big band or anything...windows down is the only way to go...hell i roll em down when its snowing...as far as gas goes your kind of in a catch 22 b/c airconditioning and drag from windows being down reduces gas mileage...anyway...

Actually, imagine YOU pulling up to a stoplight and the person in the car next to you is playing 1920s music - and it is not somebody you know. Now THAT would be an experience. It has never happened to me. Not sure how one would communicate via pantomime through car windows "Hey, I listen to the stuff too!" If I tried, the person in the other car would probably think I am nuts.

Amy Jeanne: Rick Astley! You totally win!

(I am having such a hard time not making some kind of Rickroll'd joke right now.)

Speaking of which, he's decided to go on tour again, in case you're interested. His decision was, apparently, inspired by the whole Rickrolling thing. Behold the power of the Internets!

it was a reality for me, but not only were the guys playing 20's music, but they were in double breasted suits wearing fedoras and driving a 1932 Cadillac Phaeton. Me, being an old car/mobster fanatic, stared at the spectical until the behind me honked for me to go. i will never forget it.

I have a feeling they weren't listening to Rick Astley willfully :x

All you young whippersnappers driving around listening to your 1920s and 1930s music drowning out those of us "old folks" still trying to listen to our music from the teens :p

My car has no AC and fogs easily with the heater, so I'm driving with my windows down 90% of the time (so much so infact, that my left arm actually tanned before I stopped wearing T-Shirts). With an iPod and iTrip, I can play all of my "teens" music :D

That's neat. How long ago was it - and where? If it was within the past few years I'd bet that the odds are good that the people you saw have, at some point, either lurked or posted here. This board seems to be pretty well-known amongst those who have an interest of some sort in the early 1900s decades.

A couple years ago, I'm sitting in the drive-through at Starbucks. It had been a long frustrating day and it was hot out and I opted to be a lazy slug and not go inside. In front of me is a VW convertible with two "-annies" (Tiffany, Brittany, Morgandy - you know the time - 17-18 year old brainless blond bimbettes). No doubt they were wearing flip-flop thongs as well. They have some innane rap song going way too loud (it's vibrating me inside my car with the windows rolled up) and there's some hold up with the car ahead of them at the window.

So I count to 10, then I roll down all of my windows and crank up my stereo - I had on some 30's/40's music. They whip around like I'm some sort of idiot for disturbing their "beautiful music." They crank their stereo up to the max...and blew the speakers. You could hear the cones ripping. Thank you, God!

They go on a tirade - it's the driver's dad's car and she's going to be grounded because *I* blew out her dad's stereo (Uh, hello?) yada yada yada. I'm calmly responding to their screaming and yelling, being called every name in the book. They finally drop the "f-bomb" and I says, "OK, I accept your challenge. Let's go for it here and now. My backseat's bigger - or would you rather in yours?" They're, of course, disgusted when they think about what they said and what I was implying, left speechless, and get back into their car, step on the gas, fly out of the drive-through and clip the corner of a city bus...with a cop two cars back in traffic.

The clerk at the window was roaring when I pulled up. "Michael - we've voted - your order's on us today!" But pulling into traffic, I remembered to be a gentleman - I tipped my hat to the cop and the two bimbos as I drove past sipping my Frappucino, singing along with Ain't Misbehavin'.
