Widening a Boater?

I just bought a lovely new boater, but it is a size 7 Long Oval....I thought I was a long oval because new hats tend to fit too wide on the sides....well, I thought wrong. Is there any way to stretch the sides out to fit me better? I have a hat jack- would this help any?

I would not try it Mr.Rover. The only part that will stretch is the sweat and that will snap or tear.

So Mr. Rover - you are the one. :rage: Just kidding of course. If it's the hat I'm thinking of I was watching it as I am basically a 7 long oval. There have been a few nice boaters for sale recently. I have been hesitant to buy one without trying it on as I don't currently own one and was afraid it might be difficult to resize/reshape... The same reason I'm likely to spend the extra money to buy a bowler, at full price, from one of the equestrian shops we use.
