Why Should I Buy A Vanson?

I love the design of this jacket. You don't see many D-pockets like that. So many nice details all come together brilliantly! Out of curiosity, what do you mean by the handwarmer pockets being 'double welted' as opposed to just welted?

I agree, it's a great design.

Double welt meaning there is an "edge" on top and below the zipper/pocket opening rather than a single welt which only has the edge below. I don't know that you see many single welt pockets on leather jackets (usually trousers and often tailored jackets/waistcoats), maybe simpler if I said I appreciated the welted pockets.

Finally spoke with Kim this AM and placed an order for a Oxford 9D. Should be done in about a month. Scared about the leather. We'll see. I wanted comp weight so we'll see what that looks like.

They didn’t have the 9D when I went to the showroom. I got the Enfield in Comp weight and I am not disappointed. That thing is bullet proof as yours will be.

Don‘t worry, I wear my Vanson Stadium in the new oh so terrible comp weight hide almost every day recently and while it‘s not as heavy as my heaviest 2016 Vansons, it‘s equally good.

That’s awesome Ton!
What is the difference between the Oxford and the Enfield?

Ok, gotcha. I've seen what's known as double welting on furniture, but equally I see it making sense to call a twin set of single welts as double too. I've also seen single welts on pockets referred to as piping here, but piping on furniture seems to involve cord inside the single welt... I've never dissected a jacket, but it feels different- cord free, just folded leather.

Edit: The occasion you would see only one welt on a pocket rather than two is when it has a snap fastener.

Oxford has a better collar, and a center seam down the back. It's essentially just a model B with a collar. Maybe a bit more slim fit too?

Definitely a wee bit slimmer. The Oxford also has a quilted liner. I was torn between the two, and ended up grabbing the Enfield as I could layer under it.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the newer comp weight leather. Now that mine has a little wear on it I think it’s pretty close to the older stuff. Maybe a bit less smooth and shiny.

I'm more than OK with the sound of that!

That’s cool. The collar on my Enfield was the only thing I didn’t like about the jacket. It was puny and shapeless and totally went against the badass vibe of the jacket. Not saying this is true for every Enfield but it certainly was for mine.

I’ve never been a fan of the Enfield collar. It’s half way between a CR and dress collar. While neither one of these fits look particularly good you can see the collar difference pretty clearly.

They are otherwise quite similar jackets. I’m excited for it. I haven’t ordered a new Vanson (direct) since 2014. Hopefully it arrives as promised and just in time for some real wear.

My 'Enfield' collar is not near that short and misshaped....

Not at all!
Yours was one of the first photos I saw of this jacket HD and it certainly pushed me in the direction of ordering one. I was quite baffled when I received mine because the collar seems so out of place on the jacket. Mine looked a lot like the one worn by the heavyset man in the Vanson photo.

I wouldn't like one like that either. I bought mine used and it is an older jacket in comp. steer. I don't think it had ever been worn. Not even a sleeve crease.

The collar on the one I just got is a little lopsided, I'm attributing it to the "new-ness" of the leather. Hopefully it will settle down when it breaks in. But I agree, the collar on the Oxford is more masculine. I wanted a one piece back, so I'll settle on the wimpy collar.

I personally quite like the collar on the Enfield. It reminds me of the collar on Indiana Jones' jacket. It's an understated collar, while to me the collar on the Oxford seems too 'flashy', for lack of a better word. I can see how to other folks, the Enfield collar would be too small/minimalist/odd-looking. The one thing that does bother me about the Enfield collar, is the fact that it seems asymmetrical, in that one side of the collar seems bigger than the other.

My black Enfield has this as well, whereas my brown one (ordered through Thurston from their Whidbey cowhide) does not.

I'm hoping this will even out with wear. Aside from this, I absolutely love my Enfields. The open, leatherlined handwarmer pockets, simple slanted chest pocket, two very practical inside pockets & lack of a vertical back seam make it one of the best, most classy and versatile jackets Vanson has to offer. However, since the arrival of my Vanson Raid, I think the Enfield just got knocked off the Vanson Throne for me...

That brown Enfield looks great and it doesn't look like an A2 copy.
