Why did men stop wearing hats?

Why do you think men stopped wearing hats? My dad always had a fedora on until his death in 1978? There were still a lot of older hat wearing men still around in 1978. Is there a certain event that you can point to that caused this? I know JFK was the 1st president to be sworn in without a hat. Your thoughts?
Thank you!

There are a number of existing threads covering this very subject.

Here's one: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/decline-of-the-hat.9886/

JFK wore a top hat for his inauguration. There are a number of threads covering this as well.

I see you are a fairly new member. Welcome to the lounge. It's a place with more hat based knowledge than any other I've visited. Take some time, look around. A Google query in regards to what you seek ending with fedora lounge will usually produce a number of relevant posts or threads regarding the info you're looking for.

If you're seeking general discussion about this subject, the revival of an old thread is not a bad thing as it helps to keep it centric and easier to find and the bartenders are likely to merge the thread if it resembles existing ones anyway.

Many are scared to be themselves.
Since I started wearing my Amish hat I get kudos from guys all the time saying how brave I am to be different. Society today has people afraid to stand out in the least and afraid of persecution for being "Different" or having their own mind.

Funny thing is that this is the only way I am, I've always been me.
Whether I'm rocking my regulation boonie or my amish...I've always had a hat of some kind over the years...

Many of us do this as new members. Not a big deal, and don’t be surprised if this thread disappears and is added to an existing thread. The Bartenders (site moderators) try to keep it streamlined and often merge threads.

These are small things. Please keep posting and contributing to our forum.
