Who should sing the theme for the next Bond?

Well, I for one sincerely hope it won't be the caterwauling duo who screeched through the opening credits of 'Quantum of solace'. One reviewer described the song 'Another way to die' as a train wreck- I can't think of a better simile than that! How could Amy Winehouse have possibly done worse?
Anyway if the producers don't choose her for the next, then who would the good folk of the lounge choose? By that I mean a modern artist but with a retro feel, sort of.
I'll get the ball rolling by nominating Melody Gardot:

I couldn't get over that song, either. Definitely not a fan.

I nominate Susan Boyle! Now, hear me out. She has a song that she recorded for a charity CD called "Cry Me a River" that actually sounded like a Bond song. Very retro. I think she'd be perfect.

The Dame from Tiger Bay, Cardiff, Wales - Shirley Bassey.
Apparently, Daniel Craig commented that he would like a new Bond song to be sung by her. I cannot locate an attribution for this but I'm still searching.

I like the idea of Shirley Bassey singing it.

I just wish they had a start date for production of the new film! I don't even think they've come up with the story idea yet.

I need to develop more patience when it comes to Bond movies.

I remember hearing something about Amy Winehouse possibly being lined up for the job. She's got an interesting vocal technique but her other, er habits, might prevent it happening.
P.S. Is she widely known in the U.S?

Has she done anything lately? The last I remember from her was The Rhythm Divine with Yello about 20 years ago, and History Repeating with the Propellerheads about 10 years later, so she's well overdue for another one.
It would fitting since she recorded Goldfinger (1964),

Diamonds Are Forever (1971),

and Moonraker (1979).

She is also the only artist to originally record more than one Bond theme song. A fourth seems to be in order.

This from Wikipedia:
"The Living Tree", written, produced and originally recorded by the group Never the Bride, was released as a single on 23 April 2007, marking Bassey's 50th anniversary in the UK Singles Chart - and the record for the longest span of Top 40 hits in UK chart history.[citation needed] Bassey made an appearance at the 2007 Glastonbury Festival. Wearing a pink Julien MacDonald dress, she performed a 45 minute set. A new album Get the Party Started was subsequently released on 25 June 2007 and entered the UK Albums Chart at number six. The single reached #3 on the U.S. Dance Chart. The same year, Bassey performed "Big Spender" with Elton John at his annual White Tie and Tiara Ball to raise money for The Elton John AIDS Foundation.[4] In August 2007, Bassey signed a new recording contract with Universal Music's Decca Records and has been reported to be collaborating with Pink.[5]. Also in 2007, Bassey performed in Fashion Rocks in aid of The Prince's Trust at the Royal Albert Hall.

Thanks for your comments- I'm glad so many people agree about the last 'theme', I would not expect anything else from fellow loungers! It would be nice to see Dame Shirley Bassey back again, she's still going strong, and as vocal and glamorous as ever (google Shirley Bassey Glastonbury, and you can find her belting her heart out in a sequin dress and gumboots to avoid the torrential rain, you'll see what i mean!)
I seem to recall that way before Casino Royale was released Tony Christie said that he'd recorded a suitable theme 'lots of horns, brass, etc with a 60's sound', (or something along those lines) yet i never heard any more about this. Any loungers have any clues to this?

I was rooting for Amy Winehouse for Quantum's theme song. She has a Shirley Bassey quality to her voice at times. But getting Shirley herself to do the next one would be fantastic.

i think they should pull a dr. no and just use the classic john barry "james bond theme" for the opening credits...

extended version of course...

highly unlikely but it has my vote...

I would give it to that deaf choir from the UK that sings Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
in sign language.

Or Samwell. He would do it up right.
