Right you are ...

...Shamus, and well put. This Lounge is made up of people who think a little differently than most (concerning clothing and whatnot) and thanks to consignment shops, small businesses and the Internet, we have the ability to pursue our desires. Hey, thanks to this technology, which in some ways "homogenized" America and the world, we all have the ability to break out of our insular, homogenized regions -- and I have the opportunity to meet people like you!

It's interesting that this whole thread started with a blurb about what some kid thought would be the perfect day. Meanwhile, there's another forum here where we have the chance to say what our perfect day would consist of. I noticed that no one mentioned doing bodily harm to anyone there, or going to Walmart, for that matter;) .

I raise my glass (Jim Beam Rye Old Fashioned, heavy on the bitters) to hopeful perfect days without bloodshed.:cheers1:

This seems to be the logic that I'm reading on these threads. Everyone wants jobs, living wages etc. but no one wants employers. Small mom and pop stores like hardware, clothing, auto parts are not at the mercy of Wal-Mart and don't go out of business because of Wa-Mart. If they provide a service and knowledge about their products and business they will survive Wal-Mart. Dismantle your sink or take out your toilet and go into Wal-Mart and ask for help in their plumbing department. What do you get? If you're lucky, you'll get some old timer who knows a little about hardware otherwise you'll get a stunned look in your eyes. Walk around the clothing section and look for a 100% wool suit and ask for the tailor to give you a full break, cuffs, suspender buttons and to shorten the sleeves to show your french cuffs. They'll laugh you right out of the store. Take the alternator out of your car and ask Wal-Mart for another. They'll tell you they don't carry alternators.

How many people work in a typical Wal-Mart? Let's say 300. What's their average wage? Let's say $8.25 an hour. Are you trying to tell me that Homer Noodleman's Hardware was employing 300 people and paying them all $16 an hour and benefits? Or that Homer Noodleman's Hardware, Moe Freidman's Clothing, and Ike Turner's Auto Parts each employed 100 people and all their employees were paid $16 an hour and benefits. I doubt it. Like I said earlier the small businesses going under from Wal-Mart have been in the community for generations, had all the pull with the local government, school board etc and was living fat off of sweet heart contracts. Homer III figured grandpa did all the foot work and he could sit and get fat. Small town corruption is being smashed by Wal-Marts and I say hurray. Homer probably had no more than 15 people working for him and he paid them at most $13 an hour. I doubt Homer was paying his register clerks that much. If his emplyee's had any talent they'll be working at Wal-Mart making the same amount ($13) as a department head. If they had no talent they'll be a the registerat $8.25.

I didn't think I'd find anything in this thread worth remembering - until this post un-earthed some nuggets.

In our town I've long suspected both the Noodleman's and Friedman's (leftist Jewish sounding names) of many, many things not limited to but including the demise of America. I also have long cast a wary eye toward owls. They seem so un-American compared to eagles. Owls should be shot on sight, stuffed and sold at Wal Mart.

Running a cash register takes talent, rare talent. Leftists suggest schools and training for piano players, artist, etc - sure, to make more of their Leftist propoganda (Ever seen an episode of "Happy Days" or "Charles in Charge?" Nothing less than thinly veiled diatribes against Our Way Of Life.) Cash registerists deserve more to most fully exploit their talents.

The most disturbing Truth from Lincsong (No coincidence this name sounds a little like "Lincoln" I bet as both are notable All-Americans) is the revelation of the continued demise of poor Ike Turner. You'd think he'd have learned his lesson after all that trouble with Tina but apparently not. Ike went on "rollin' on a river" of trouble in the auto parts industry. I can't wait to see the dirt Lincsong turns up on Clyde McPhatter, The O-Jays, and K.C. and the Sunshine Band (we know what was causing that 'sunshine' don't we, Lincsong? Good old fashioned illegal mary-juana I'd gather.)

Keep up the good work and keep "ratting out" nuggets of truth, Linc.

Sarcasm button off.
