Rude Once Too Often
What Ho!

I often listen to "The Charlie McCarthy" show with Edgar Began and Charlie mcCathy, they are very funny and stand the test of time, in one of the funniest episodes Maralyn Monroe is a guest star and she and Charlie are to be married! the shows are always peppered with great musical numbers, Ray Noble was the show's bandleader, and made the show seem even more classy , with his very posh English accent

As W.C. Fields might say "I wouldn't mind taking a match to Chalie McCarthy." :)
Yes, you make a great dummy. :D

I'm a big fan of Bergen. He was one of those classic ventriloquists wherein he was a nice but his dummy would say insulting things about people.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

Did you know that Bergen started out to be a photographer? He sent away for a mail order photography course but was sent the ventriloquism course in error. He didn't have the money to re-buy the course he wanted, so he kept the one he received and studied it instead. The is history!

I love the Charlie McCarthy radio show. At first I was a little dubious - I mean, it is a ventriloquist on the radio! - but I ended out liking it quite a bit!

Yes, that was the weird part of it. When I finally saw him on TV, after being exposed to Paul Winchell in the 60s, I thought, this guy (Bergen) is a ventriloquist? His mouth moves! My mom had told me, 'Yeah, he became famous on the radio. Who'd know that he moves his mouth?'

Paul Winchell was actually one of my childhood heroes. Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smith on TV was a 'never-miss' for me.

I remember his daughter Candice Bergen, speaking on the wireless, Charlie was a fully fledged member of the family and was present at all family meals! Oh just imagine!

Yes, Candace Bergen quips that she thought Charlie was her older brother.
