Who Owns A Goorin

I haven't been to their North Beach store, but their store on Haight St. does pretty brisk business. Even if they are modern, wool (if they're felt) and what not, it is kind of nice to see people walking around with hat boxes.

You got that right....I sort of surfed into this site by mistake. Since 1895? Who could have possibly bought these hats since 1895? Are these the people that make Walmart and Target hats? My goodness...not much here for me.

No their hats are much better quality than Walmart and Target hats. I've handled both, but the styles are pretty much the same. I assume they've changed with the times and always offered hats in the current style. Fact is the current style is for stingy brims that harken back to the 1960s, most folks here go for the older styles. I can't wear a stingy brim. for some reason it looks like I'm wearing a tiny hat that doesn't fit my head even when it's the correct size, so Goorin Bros have nothing for me, but at a time when most companies outsource all their production, I gotta give some respect to any company that still makes some of their products in the USA even if they don't make anything I personally want to buy, You certainly won't find any hats in Walmart or Target that are made in this country.

I just got one of their hats called Buck Rivers. Sort of an outback style. Dark brown with a three inch brim. Simple thin leather band. I can't believe I spent this much on a hat. Oh well.

While I dont care much for their fedoras, their caps seem quite nice. I have a Rooster on the way - since it was on sale $19 seemed like a good price for my first cap. I'll post a review once it arrives!

The Goorin Aaron

This is the Aaron gatsby cap, from Goorin's American Made collection. Quality seems good so far; definitely a step up from the made-in-China cap from them I already have. It's a nice light linen, cotton (not polyester) lining, and a bit of leather on the front sweatband. I like it. The quality is much better than the Dobbs cap I have, for about the same price!

Drew Brees buys fedoras

Was reading USA TOday and in the travel section it mentioned that Drew Bees likes to buy fedoras at Goorin Brothers - a local hatmaker. Any one had bone made by this hatter?

I don't think you'll be that happy with Goorin's hats. From the prices, they're mostly wool or cloth hats. If memory serves, you already have a couple of fur felt hats. The styles may look good, but the material won't last too long. A fur felt hat on sale from Stetson will be over $100.00 and as much as $180.00.

Goorin Brothers is a mass market hat maker making the cheap cloth stuff for fashion of the moment.
Not for someone who really loves hats. as the above picture shows not much of a cap at all.

When I first stumbled across Goorin, I saw caps and super-stingy fedoras with flip-up brims made from cloth and I thought "whoa". However, if one looks at the hats in their "American Made" or "Heritage" collection, you can see that they are now offering some wider brims, which certainly made me happy! Not only that, but they've got a homburg now.
I've handled some of their expensive wools and they do feel very very nice (for wool felt). The quality of the wool's finish and appearance far surpasses anything I've seen from Bailey, Scala, or Jaxon. They've also got a fur felt hat now, too!

I probably won't buy a fedora from them any time soon. However, there is more to this company than cloth hats for the current fashion.

Especially with these new, better proportioned offerings, I can't see how a maker/retailer with stores nationwide could possibly be bad news for encouraging hat wearers.

Also, as has been noted earlier, it's nice to see things made in the USA these days.

This is true. Their hats from those two "collections" are excellent for wool-material lids.

Their two rabbit fur felt hats here and here look nice but are just too costly for me to consider due to similar price points for bona fide custom hats of beaver or beaver-blend elsewhere...

They have these liquidation sales about 4 times a year in San Francisco.
at there wearhouse on 9th st by Folsom. Stuff is marked down drasticaly.
Nothing i would wear even if its a deal, But i find a few things for my kids.
The kids wear the stuff so im ok with ,,
My Kids know the diffrence between Hipster low quality & Quality made Vintage.
But they would rather wear a Vintage Late 50's early to mid 60's.
Hat before Goorin stuff & vintage stingy furfelt are a bargain compared to there wool or fabric hipster stuff

I went into a Goorin Bros. store in Nashville on Friday. I was wandering around with some time to kill between meetings. The hats were all cheaply made from cheap materials, with expensive price tags. Some of the caps were not bad but $125 for a cap that looks ok seems a little much.

They did have some child size flat caps for $25. I might go back and get some for the kiddies.

Hm. Just looked at the Goorin website. I gotta say I kinda like their styling, but too many woolies and even the wool/rabbit blends are pretty overpriced. Honestly I don't think I saw anything that ought to be priced over $35-40.

I like my 11 Goorin's. Family total 21. The store on Magazine in NOLA does custom work, and I have been very pleased with what they have made for me and my wife. We have had several bands made to swap out on some of my hats. The office in San Francisco has gone out of their way to locate things for me that I wanted. Here is the list of the hats that we have from Goorin:
