photobyalan said:For heaven's sake...if you're going...buy up everything you can that's over 7 3/8. You will not have any trouble reselling it around here. I would be thrilled to have a chance to buy a light gray fedora with a 2 1/2"+ brim, or a light gray Homburg. If anyone lays their hands on one, PM me for sale or trade. Same thing for one of those nifty electric hat stretchers.
For anyone who buys at this auction: please consider offering up your surplus items on the FL classified board before you ebay them.
Dusty Rhodes said:I'll take a boat load of 7 3/8 myself. JP, please leave a little for the Dustman, I can't never get enough brown and tan hats. 7 1/2's are a tad too big for me anyway! I got a ton of cash laying around after selling off some of my Blue Angels memrobillia so I can't think of a better way than to spend some of it on some more hats LOL Oh wait, I do gotta put gutters on and furnish my new house. Hmm hat...gutters....hats....sofa.....hats...TV for the living room......hats....dining room table......hats! Hmmmmmmm I'll take the hats. Seriosuly, is anyone going? I thought about it until I saw it would take 17 hours to drive there, and I'm in a class for work. I could see it now: I'm calling in Monday morning saying I can't make it back because I'm Mo with a U-Haul full of hats! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Dusty
We'll see what pops. And I feel your pain when I do that to some really outstanding 7 1/4's I find. Pain in the forehead LOLjamespowers said:They did mention that there was a NOS Dobbs in brown. Go ahead and get all the 7 3/8 you want. Too much work for me to stretch them when I can get new ones that fit.

I thought I'd be real clever and just call the Stetson Hat Co. in St. Joseph, Mo. @ 816-233-3286 and ask if I could purchase an "old" Whippet or Flagship. The individual that answered the phone sounded like it was no big deal... they took the size and color I was looking for and put me on hold for 5 to 10 min. finally they came back and said they didn't have any, the closest was the Chatham... I then told them that I heard thru a reliable source that they were supposed to have vintage hats available thru that outlet. The lady said she could go over to their other warehouse and check. When she came back she had found a "VINTAGE" Stetson Fedora, size 7 1/2 in light brown for $55.00.
She says the hat is called the #1 Vintage... never heard of it before, but for $55 I went ahead and bought it.
Does anyone here know what a Stetson "Vintage" is ????
I received this hat yesterday, as you may recall I bought it sight unseen from Stetson in St. Joesph over the phone last FRiday during all the pre-auction hype... it turns out its a Stetson Sovereign. It says Sovereign on the sweatband, but on the paper tag attached on the inside it says "Vintage" on the paper tag on the outside of the box it says "Vintage". The sweatband itself is a dark brown. The hat is a brown, what they call a Bronzine. Also on the seatband is the name of a store in New York that it was obviously made for. The fur felt is actually fairly thick, thicker that a newer Borso I have. The hat is an obvious factory reject. There are a couple subtle flaws that would be noticable to any FL member, but probably not most ordinary folk would notice in passing. I wouldn't say the hat is all that vintage, regardless of the name on the tag. But, all-in-all I'm not too disappointed for a brand new hat @ $55.

It's not a bad lookin' hat. I have a newer thrift store Royal Deluxe Temple which I don't really like too much because the crown is too shallow. The hat I just received has a taller / deeper crown and over a 2" brim width. And... It is most definitely not a Homburg. There is no sharp curl to the brim and the edge of the brim is not treated in any way, i.e., it's not bound or anything else. The thickness of the felt feels thicker than the Temple I have and the inside liner is solid white with the Stetson emblem rather than the funky checkery looking white of the newer Temple.
