I wanted to highlight this need. In case you missed it, read the "Stetson Auction" thread. If a member is able to represent the Lounge at the auction, the rest of us will bankroll you.

One at a time! Oh my! I figured they'd just lump them together into lots. Now I really wish I could go.

I've got a customer living in St. Joe. I've been trying to get in touch with him all morning. He's not a hat enthusiast but he's got his own obsessions and will understand our collective need for a representative at this auction.

Strange... "Vintage"

I thought I'd be real clever and just call the Stetson Hat Co. in St. Joseph, Mo. @ 816-233-3286 and ask if I could purchase an "old" Whippet or Flagship. The individual that answered the phone sounded like it was no big deal... they took the size and color I was looking for and put me on hold for 5 to 10 min. finally they came back and said they didn't have any, the closest was the Chatham... I then told them that I heard thru a reliable source that they were supposed to have vintage hats available thru that outlet. The lady said she could go over to their other warehouse and check. When she came back she had found a "VINTAGE" Stetson Fedora, size 7 1/2 in light brown for $55.00.
She says the hat is called the #1 Vintage... never heard of it before, but for $55 I went ahead and bought it.
Does anyone here know what a Stetson "Vintage" is ????:)

I spoke to my friend in St. Joe. He's getting back to me later this afternoon on his schedule for tomorrow. If he can attend the auction, what ideas do you have concerning using him as our "agent". I would think specific guidelines need to be spelled out such as prioritizing items (hats, catalogs, memorabilia, etc.); hat styles with bidding limits for each style and or size; personal requests for specific items. Perhaps a simple order form with your name, purchase request, bidding limits and a mechanism to get this fellow the funds to close these deals. It could be done but it requires an extraordinary amount of trust. Are you prepared to trust a person you've never met based on the advise of another person (me) who you know (and for that matter, very briefly) only through the FL?

He is very bright and savvy and I know him to be a man of his word but keep in mind he'd be going into the auction with little knowledge of hat history.

For the right hat !!

ii-5-i, if your acquaintance in Missouri is good enough for you, meaning you'd trust him / her with your life's savings of $100 than I think I would be inclinded to do so too.
I hate to keep harping on one particular hat, but I'm really intriqued with this Stetson Royal De Luxe Flagship, and I could get my paws on a new vintage that would be about as cool as it gets!!
7 3/8, 7 1/2, to 7 5/8 is my size range... any color would do... "beggers can't be choosers"

Not a very good picture but the hat is a 1946 Flagship:

I have one myself in gray/blue and I wear it often.

Of all the Stetsons I see come across the ebay screen I have seen one flagship... whippets are very cool and I have one, but they seem to come up once a week or two on ebay. The Flagship... oh maybe once only that I've seen.... kind of elusive... I'll have to pounce the second I see one (if it's my size).
Thanks for sharing the add !!

If anyone knows someone going down on Saturday ,try to get them to buy up any old catalogs or memrobilia . I'd hate to see anything thrown out . I'm sure the local hillbillies living in St Jo aren't interested in the eqipment ,probably the tractors and other outdoor stuff .
Once this stuff goes , that's it . It'll never be foung again.:cool2:
