Some Japanese jacket patterns are quite restricting. Somtimes that's simply because they're 20s patterns to begin with, small armholes and narrow shoulders by design, but sometimes they are slimmed down overall, in the sleeve width as well. True 20s patterns can be a bit weird in the chest, too.

That's a beautiful jacket. Some time ago I tried on a stock dustbowl in my size but it just didn't fit right. From the front it looked perfect but from the back, not so much. See those bulges on the shoulders? View attachment 239999

I don't think a smaller shoulder width on this jacket would solve this. Does anyone know what couses these bulges?

That Dustbowl appears to be made of very thick Horsehide, and the bulges you see seem to nearly line up with the expansion pleats in the back of the jacket. I agree with others, it's a tremendous fit on you aside from this. Not exactly sure how those would occur on this or a different pattern. In any case you did really seem to enjoy the jacket, wonder if with time & Break-in, those bulges would perhaps settle down. Wearing a backpack could have helped here too.

They might settle down a bit, or they might not. In any case, I would not be prepared to spend Aero-level money on the chance that it might start to look good with time. At least for me, I wouldn’t make that gamble and I don’t think anyone else should either.

It was indeed a very heavy hide, it felt like I was wearing armor. The shop had a number of stock jackets for sale. Different sizes and styles. This was one of them so nothing custom made for me. I did like the style but it was way to heavy for me. Of course I now know that such a jacket needs time to break in and that Aero also offers jackets made from less heavy hides. But back then the only leather jackets I knew about were fashion jackets from RRL and I assumed this was standard for Aero jackets.

The CXL Aero jackets stocked by the two shops in the greater Köln area (Erkelenz and Köln) were bought years ago when Aero used heavier CXL more frequently. They mostly stock one model, one size, so as to cover a range of models and the whole range of sizes but with most of the individual models just in one size, plus a few standard models in all or most sizes. At least that's how they started out, they may have run out of some of these (or re-stocked a few). There's a similar shop in Sinsheim, they all have the same basic system regarding their Aero products.

Totally agree! It would be too much for a jacket that was not correct...
