Who do you use to host pictures on forums?

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum to discuss this but I just found out that all the pictures I have posted on various forums over the years using Photobucket have been taken down. They now want to charge $40 a month or $400 a year for 3rd party hosting. Not bloody likely for me since I only post photos about a half dozen times a year. Are there any reliable sites out there that let you post forum photos for free? I'm a little ticked at this development as some of these forums act as archives for valuable information and I've noticed lots of pictures have disappeared. Just goes to show that the internet is unreliable for long time storage. If you see a picture or video online that you really like, better save it to your computer.

The simplest solution here is to just drag the image file into the box where you're composing your post. Done. You no longer need third party hosting software to post images- they get stored here on our servers, free.

It works great here (although, I've had to resize my pics down occasionally or they either get rejected or turned on their side), but one other forum I frequent doesn't allow for this type of picture-posting support at all.

Kudos to FL, the upgrade made to the site awhile back is outstanding and the bartenders deserve an enormous amount of credit for making the site both nicer to look at and much more functional.

I upload directly to FL. 3rd party hosting doesn't work as well as we'd all like. Reading back through threads, I see WAY TOO MANY place holders for photos that are no longer available because either the service changed or you reorganized your photos and moved them without updating ALL your forum posts. It's a pretty lame experience to read all these compliments on someone's badass hat that you can't see.

I upload directly from my computer, as Scotrace suggested. I use the 'Upload a File' button, though.

It won't cost you anything. Don't use their site. If enough people do this . . . poof!

I can appreciate their problem if 75% of their users aren't paying anything but its something they should have addressed years ago and in a better way. I'm surprised how many complaints I've seen from professional businesses who were hosting images with them.

Blaming users for using ad blockers on the site, thus stopping extra ad revenue, seems a little unfair given how bloated with pop ups and adverts the site became - The attached is what I got when I logged in to close my account

They did handle this terribly though and for that alone I wouldn't be sad to see the end of the site. It is just a shame that nearly every forum online has lost all of its archive images.

To me, DIY means, Don't Involve Yourself and I carry that mantra into technology. At first, uploading a file always got the response, File Too Large. I hadn't a clue what that meant. File? What file? It's a picture that I'm after. The response from friends was the usual, oh it's easy, go away, it's damned hard if you don't speak the jargon. However, as it seems so simple to others, I was determined to crack it. First up was to translate the gobble-de-gook into something that I understood, that's when I learned that pixels weren't fairies. Then I found out that the edit button gave me a menu that reduced the pixels but retained the image. Yay, I got there. You won't believe how much of a smartarse I felt over that.

I think I am completely stupid. I cannot seem to drag and drop (perhaps my 2008 iMac is too old? Software issue - iPhoto 2008?). And, here is where it gets embarrassing - where exactly is the "upload a file" button???

I don't think you can take any images directly from iPhoto and place them anywhere, though that's an old enough version for me to be unsure. Usually, you have to highlight a picture and choose Export from the file menu. Then it becomes a format usable outside iPhoto.
