Who Can Wear the Aero Barnstormer?

jback,

That jacket looks great in the oil pull. I am guessing you are no less than 5'11". Do you have room for a sport coat underneath that? If you sized down would you have room for a sport coat?

5'11'' is a very good guess :)

It gets a little tight in the shoulders with a jacket underneath. I recently bought a nice tweed jacket and it's a bit too much under the Barnstormer. Feels cramped. So I go with a Barbour wax coat instead on top of the tweed :) Very British. But a more close fitting sports jacket might be ok.

Barnstormer, the last on my Aero "Bucket List!" Short; Maxwell - done. Medium; Teamster - check (breaking it in right now). Long; Barnstormer - next (waiting for the bonus check). For me, that jacket epitomizes the romance of a leather coat. Roguish flying circus pilot, daring big game hunter and world traveler, and devil may care two wheeled adventurer on a cross country jaunt. All wrapped up nice and neat; with the added bonus of a heady horsehide scent. Size it right, the naysayers be dammed, and let your imagination carry you above the pedestrian musings of those with their neon green and baby blue Gortex shells.

jback, Rocketeer and all you barnstormers, hat's off to you.

I have a Barnstormer in brown FQHH and love it. I'm 6'1" and 77 lbs so fairly tall and lean. One great thing about the Barnstormer is that the belt is removable which changes the look and feel of the coat. I tend to wear mine without most of the time. They're a very versatile coat/jacket.

I have one in brown FQHH, bought in 2008, I think. It's very warm, quite heavy but in a good way. Honestly, I think it's the ultimate leather jacket. I've lost a bit of weight since I got it, so it's a little big, but it's essentially an overcoat so no worries there as it's great for layering.

I have the Barnstormer in Cordovan HH. Here are a couple of shots when brand new (last year)

Its a size 46, so there is plenty of room for layering a heavier sweater if needed. If I had my way, the sleeves would be a tad shorter. I have noticed some bleeding of the cordovan. Ruined a white dress shirt, by turning the collar pinkish/red.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

I have seen these pics on Thurston's site and always thought it was a sharp jacket and a good fit for you.

It would be interesting to see how it has broken in for you.

I love the jacket, and have been trying to get my wife or daughter to snap a few of this one and the 30's halfbelt, now that they're a year old. I need a sunny weekend with nothing on the calendar. Unfortunately, those are few and far between :-(

I would like to see a barnstormer with a half belt, like on the Rockefeller and 3 piece back like on the pioneer, and the mouton colar . I wonder if aero would be up for something like that

Great looking jacket, ranger. Cordovan is such a fantastic colour, and goes with pretty much everything.
