Which color shoe goes best with a navy suit?Keep in mind that these will be my only "true" dress shoes and as such will be worn to funerals, weddings (both afternoon and evening),and basically any event to which I wear my suit .Right now I only have a blazer and a sportcoat, but will be needing a suit in the coming year.

I actually have two pairs of black shoes (one pair of wingtips and one pair of split toes),but I suppose a third pair wouldn't hurt.:D

If you already have 2 pairs of black shoes.......... get a new pair of dark brown ones! :)

It seems like the black shoes w/. navy suit faction is winning out in the poll at this point, but I think the majority opinion is dead wrong.

I think a lot on men only THINK black shoes go w/. everything - but it doesn't make it so.

Brown shoes go so well, with, browns, tans, greens, blues, and grays...there is just no substituting a good pair of brown oxfords/wingtips/etc.

Just my two cents...

When the Irish Rugby team sported brown shoes with navy suits, the wags in the papers laughed saying how it was a sin to wear brown shoes in "the Pale" (greater Dublin area). Only farmers coming up to the city would wear brown, they quipped!

the assorted heroes of the Irish rugby team appeared on our front pages during the week en route to Paris, dressed, it appeared, in navy blue suits and brown shoes. Quelle horreur!

Readers will, of course, be aware that King Edward VIII (before he tootled off with Mrs Simpson) once publicly and angrily upbraided a member of his cabinet for wearing brown shoes while up in London; such attire was suitable only for the country.

Things have relaxed nowadays, but thankfully not completely. The incomparable (for all sorts of reasons) PJ Mara once replied to a request from a journalist which was clearly beneath his dignity and status.

‘‘That,” Mara replied, ‘‘sounds like a job for a fellow in a blue suit and brown shoes.”

My vote's on oxblood wingtips, black and navy clash!

Could burgundy work for evening events (excluding black or white tie, obviously) and funerals? The more I think about it,they would go well together.I've got my eyes a pair of six eyelet bals that come in either black or burgundy.

If I could have only one dress shoe..........

It works with suits of blue and grey, as well as Semi-Formal.
