Does anyone know who the gentleman was in the red scarf and red fedora? He stood out! He must have been a person of some stature since he greeted all of the dignataries as they were introduced.

WEEGEE is the only man I know with the guts to rock a red hat on international television! lol

Seriously, though, I missed that part.

I don't know if it was him, but it looked to me like former Ohio Secretary of State and current RNC Vice Chairman, Ken Blackwell.

Politics aside, Cheney looks awesome in that hat and coat. That crown reminds me a bit of a 1920's style buckaroo western crown - tall and tapered. He even looks a bit like Christopher Lloyd in Roger Rabbit. I wonder what would happen if someone hummed the Raiders theme or yelled, "Hey, Indy!" to Cheney? I'm guessing he'd kill them with lightening bolts from his finger tips.

Cheney is from Wyoming. That hat does have a very western/cowboy
look.

I have been searching the web. No luck so far.
It's surprisingly difficult to find pictures of the crowds around
the speakers at the event.

I'm more interested in what looked like a green dented homburg
someone wore up and to the right of the podium- looked like a
nice vintage lid. There were a couple of decent fedoras in the
audience, too.

For now I'll just be satisfied that it all happened. Nice to see
it from California, too- looks like you really needed a hat out there!

Rep. John Lewis?

Was it Rep. John Lewis, a leader of the civil rights movement since 1960, and one of the speakers at the 1963 March on Washington?

I can state for a fact it was not Rep. Lewis...but, I believe, it was Congressman Sanford Bishop of Georgia rocking the red fedora.
According to one of his former aides, he did it so that his GOP constituents could see him being nice to the Bushes and the Dems could see him shaking hands with Obama.

I found a picture of the red fedora. Unfortunately, the
way it's set up, you can't make it an image link or link to
it directly. Go to:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/galleries/president_barack_obama/president_barack_obama.html

Click through till you get to #24. Look below Jimmy and Rosalynn.

And let's not forget Mohammed Ali at #36, in his fedora.

"Tell 'em to make sure they got their James Brown pass
And don't be surprised if Ali is in the White House
Reverend Ike, Secretary of the Treasure
Richard Pryor, Minister of Education
Stevie Wonder, Secretary of FINE arts
And Miss Aretha Franklin, the First Lady"

Well every living figure suggested by George Clinton was present...

Here's me tryin' to get my word in before Matt gets tempted to shut down the Cheney gangbust... It's sure nice that this board does have considerable humor, though, and I haven't seen, throughout the board, too much flaming (from flame, not "Fleming" lol ), either. Mature lot ;)

When I saw that picture, I immediately thought "Borsa!". Many of the jews in Antwerp wear exactly those kind of hats (and other hats); of course it could be custom made. It's rather puzzling that the hat's got the knot on the starboard side. Especially since that hat doesn't in the least look "woman".

Maybe we should ask Mr. Cheney! He should know. And we could find out if he knows about where male knots are supposed to be (on hats, of course).

Thanks for digging them up. I was very curious about them too.
