Where to buy?

Hello sirs,
I'm pretty new to the fedora lounge and was wondering where i could buy a fedora. I'm just a kid but i love how fedoras look and am eager to buy one, but I can't find anywhere to buy from. I live in Atlanta, and if you're not familiar with the city, it's pretty hard to find a store that carries fedoras. Anybody have suggestions? They would be appreciated.

I would try The Fedora Store
or Bencraft Hats or Aaron's Hats as starting points. All are members here, there are more, and some of the regulars here will give you their suggestions as well.

The Fedora Store's great, and Duane's a member here at Fedora Lounge and offers a discount for Loungers. He's a great help and very patient if you have questions. When you place an order, you have your hat in a matter of days. I'd highly recommend starting there.

I haven't had the pleasure of doing business with any of our local hatters yet, but I have heard good things about them and their products.

I have had great success on EBay. EBay would probably be your best bet but be prepared to wage war with others over the hat that interests you.

Also, I have been prowling around Thrift Stores (Salvation Army, Goodwill, ect.). Occassionally, they'll have an original hat for sale at a very low price.

Try not to waste your time with antique shops. Speaking from experience, they often tend to keep the hats for themselves!

I agree, our "locals" are a good place to start. Also, I've never had a problem with millerhats.com and they will answer questions by e-mail. Ebay can be a little hit or miss, but OK.
I'll probably be shot for saying this, but if you don't really have $100 or so to throw around (you did say you were young), you could look for a wool felt hat rather than a fur felt, to start. I say that only because wool is much less expensive. It may not last as long, and generally is inferior to fur felt in every way... but I started with wool felts. They got me through highschool and college just fine.

If I may ask, what style of fedora do you like? Any idea what size you are? I ask because I'm still cleaning out my storage areas and finding my old starter hats as I go, which don't fit me anymore.

Thank you all for your help. Recently I've been looking around in antique shops hoping to find what i like, but i never do. I've checked Ebay and gone on google and ask.com looking for hat stores in atlanta-no luck. I'm going to check out the stores/people and websites that you all have recommended to see if i can find what I'm looking for.
-And NB, you're not gonna get shot for that, i agree with you that i should start out with something simple since I don't have $100 to spare at the moment. For the other question you asked about what style i like and what my size is-I like a fedora with a longer brim that's either gray or black with a black band (I know there is probably a specific type of name or brand for what i just said, but I am new at fedoras and lack the sort of experience and knowledge that all of you have.) For my size-I'll get back to you. (I think I'm a 7 1/4.)

I've been looking at the Bailey straws at thefedorastore site as a way to pick up a couple of good priced hats to drive around in my convertible and to walk to my office in the summer(gotta keep sun off the bald pate). Are the Bailey's decent quality.. i do not want to wear cheap looking stuff to office in Manhattan)? I would appreciate your opinions.

ufguy11- the key to Ebay is patience. You can get a quite decent fedora for as little as 10 bucks. Just watch, wait and bit ONLY to your limit. Ebay seems to flow in cycles. One hat will get lots of attention one week and then a similar hat will go down to the last hour without a bid and you can get it for the minimum. If you decide to spend a maximum of $35 just hang on and don't get anxious or over-bid. Your hat will come along.
