Hey guys,

Just because I'm an old-fashioned kind of person who would prefer to handle stuff before he buys it, does anyone know where I can purchase suspenders/braces in Melbourne, Australia?

I've looked up a few shops that look like good possible candidates, but I'd like some advice from others before I go out into the wide blue yonder.

Does anyone know if I can buy them at Anton's in Melbourne Central?

Oh, and button-braces, please. Not clippies.

I am pretty sure Anton's stock button-on braces. As with everything there the price will knock your socks off.

I don't know if they stock sock suspenders though (joke). I have quite a few pairs that I have found over the years at op shops. Are you familiar with High Street, Northcote? There are a few places with ties, braces eetc. Try Old Hat for a start, maybe call them?

I will post, if I remember to, the names and contact details of some of the shops that might be useful

Hi Mike,

I'm familiar with Anton's and their prices. I'd rather keep that as a LAST resort. I'm very impressed with the stuff that they have there, but as you say - the prices...oy.

If you remember the details of those shops (names, addresses etc), please post them. Thanks.

Talbot, by DJ's I assume you mean David Jones, right? Somehow, I doubt I'd have any luck there...Where would I even start looking!? Hahaha.

Look for Thurston braces.

When asked for his reaction to the outbreak of war in 1939, actor Sir Ralph Richardson replied that he had gone straight to his tailor on Savile Row and purchased half a dozen pairs of Thurston braces in case they might be in short supply.
