Hi everyone,I joined this Forum back in 2012 as Fashion Frank but the last time I posted was in 2018 !
I returned today as Fedora Frank as I had to create a new account.
I was really surprised to see how many of the old crew is no longer here!
I had noticed that Touchofevil was wondering where I went but I see that even he hasen’t been around in a few months.
If you remember me please post a reply as I would really like to see who’s here from the old days and thanks in advance,Frank

Yeah, we’ve lost some good ones. Good to see you again, though.

I value this place and I hope it continues indefinitely. But I accept that times change and that nothing lasts forever. Hell, who, not so long ago, woulda thunk that Sears-Roebuck would go under?
Hey Tony, yes I remember you my friend, glad to see you are still here and thank you for responding !

Welcome back Frank! More than a few years ago the good folks responsible for keeping The Lounge up and running found it necessary to do a software upgrade, and afterward a lot of the old-time members (myself included) had difficulties logging in. The end result was that they either had to create a new profile here for themselves and start over, or do what most ultimately did--move on to greener pastures. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We lost a lot of good members, but gained quite a few new ones as well, so...well, you'd have to ask a bartender, but I think it all eventually evened out.

Thank you for responding to my Thread.
Yes I was surprised to see the difference in the format, all the pop up ads and I also had to create a whole new account to get back on the Forum.
What shocked me the most was how many old timers who were always on here are now gone but I myself was gone for like 7 years

I’ve been a contributor for quite a few years and have seen many a familiar face suddenly disappear, never to be heard from again. My mind tends to jump to conclusions of ill health or worse; but it’s probably just as likely that they wandered off after having gotten bored with the slow pace around here.

I have noticed since my return that the activity level here is very low compared to how it was in the past but then that was 7 years ago.
what shocked me the most is the amount of the “ old timers” that are no longer here !

Frank, some of us long-timers (25+ years for me!) are still reading everyday but don't have much to write about.

I'm retired with little disposable income, so I'm way past my period of buying jackets and hats regularly, and I can't really comment on the current market. I don't watch as much TV or movies as I used to, so I only rarely have recommendations or commentary on reviews. I'm still doing photography with classic film cameras, so I post about that sometimes... but nobody here seems all that interested.

But I actually think the activity level is plenty high. I typically visit once a day, and there are generally four or five pages of active threads to get through. That's MORE than it used to be at times.

Thank you for responding and I can totally get that.
I’m also retired now, and I was just really surprised at how many people that used to be on here all the time I no longer here, like touch of evil, Justin Powers, and a few others .
Someone made the observation that this forum gets less newer members, because the younger generation is just totally decoupled From things that our generation can remember.

So-called "experts" in human behavior have noted that the average human has no interest in anything that pre-dates their own existence. "World War II? No, I was born in 1987; I couldn't care less about that." Fortunately, I think most of the members here have an active interest in semi-recent history like the eras of World Wars I and II, and other specific areas of history that pique their curiosity for one reason or another. So, yes, I think that lack of interest has something to do with a dwindling membership.

I think you summed it up very nicely about each generation only caring about what’s current to them.
I am shocked though that most young adults have zero comprehension about both world wars and even the Civil War for that matter.
Its funny because here we are communicating thru computers yet todays kids have no idea what it was like before the internet, writing letters, getting a “ long distance “ phone call, reading a newspaper, getting your own first car and being able to repair it yourself.
I guess in some ways it’s better today with all the advances in medicine and technology but I can’t lie, I miss the simpler days.

I find it to be a "trade off" of sorts; some days grateful that we have devices that make it possible to communicate with people who are almost anywhere on the thin skin of this planet we call "Earth", and other times longing to be the only person on a well-stocked deserted island with no demands apart from preparing my own meals when I'm hungry and finding a suitable replacement for toilet paper. ;)

Lots of the old crew are radio silent these days, a few still post on the VLJ Forum & are mainly folk with a strong interest in military flight wear.
