Where do you see fedoras worn the most?

It has been my experience in recent years that there are two to three
places where I see fedoras worn, as well as any manner of hat:
-Local Farmer's Markets
-Flea Markets
-Weekend Vintage Car Shows
Perhaps this is simply a LA phenomenon, but
locally these three arenas draw men and women
sporting fedoras. And not the stingy brim ones, either.
Is this anyone else's experience?

Good observation. I have to agree. I tend to see quite a few at farmer's markets and flea markets around here too. I see a few at car shows as well, but mostly straw ones. Arts and crafts shows are a good place too. We have First Friday arts and crafts fairs downtown about 9 months out of the year, and folks tend to dress up a little bit for that including fedoras and other fine headwear.

Same here - I generally don't see any others, other than a (very) occasional Walmart type and the even more occasional western.

I do see a lot of westerns when visiting our office in Ft Worth though.

I see them when I go into the city once in a while. I don't see any around here except what I am wearing. Well, once in a while I see some 20 something with one of those junk stingies (like you noted). But otherwise, not many.

Around where I am, I'm the only one, (sometimes I see someone wearing a cheapie cloth stingy).. Although I do get a lot of positive comments when I wear my fedoras, and mostly from the ladies!

Trilbies!

I rarely see true fedoras in my neck of the woods, but those cheap cloth trilbies are common enough. However, everyone seems to think that they are one and the same. :frusty:

My problem is not with the trilbies themselves, but their wearers. They never seem to abide by even the most rudimentary of hat etiquette. I've even seen one young fellow every Sunday wearing his during the church service.

Perhaps I am just expecting too much from people that think a t-shirt and shorts is being well-dressed.

As for me, I would rather they not be worn at all than be worn incorrectly.

You'll see a lot of fedoras passing through Grand Central Terminal during the winter months. Saw a good many at the polo matches in Wellington (FL) last week.

Not many here in the suburbs. Do see a few when I venture into downtown and at the Pops concerts.

I always see a few when I'm in NYC, various qualities and vintages.

When I first came to New York in the 80's there was a whole generation of older black men that dressed to the nines and wore beautiful fedoras. They seem to be gone now. If I'm near the diamond district there is always a few hassidic (sp?) men in large brimmed black fedoras.

You don't see many here in the cities, mainly at the races and yes, alternative sites like markets and festivals. Often worn by people who have slightly more progressive social views. They are also sometimes worn by inner-urban aesthetes (with suits, accessories, etc) who may or may not be progressive.

One of those could be me, not too many though I agree. I prefer my winter wardrobe including fedora and long dark coat. Too many people wearinf beenies with a suit.

Not many places in my NJ suburb at all... Once in a while in the supermarket I'll see a fellow wearing an "Indy" knockoff... but for the most part it seems to be just me, I do get some "great hat" quips in stores around town... but have yet to see a true fedora (non stingy).

True. Our last trip out west we went through the Atlanta airport. I saw at least a half-dozen fedoras, and outback type hats, plus at leat that many cowboy hats. In the Denver airport on the return trip, mostly cowboy hats with a few fedoras here and there.

It's just the place to bring out your hat, even if it's been sitting in the closet for a decade, people always tend to buy or hunt for their hat for that trip.

Who knows why, but my semi-local Whole Foods Market seems to draw them out as well. I even had another customer ask "Who's your hatter?!" when I was wearing a VS finished Panama.

I only go there for the fresh roasted coffee beans, and the loss-leader, roasted unsalted ALMONDS.
