Where do you hang your hat?

My room closet is old enough (house built in 1900) that they have a board on the top which is what I assume for placing hats etc on, that whole long shelf is filled with my hats, military helmets, etc.

Where is the "Like" button...oh wait, this isn't Facebook....

If you want to mimic an old hat shop - and have a lot of loose coins - these would be great with two 5/16" brass or chrome tubes on top: http://www.blackcountrymetalworks.co.uk/Iron-Shelf-Brackets.htm

A little more realistic solution is to find some cheaper wooden brackets - a projection of around 12-14" will take most hats - and some 5/16" aluminum tubes. A bracket every 52" will easily hold 4 hats with 2 3/4" brims between brackets without bending of the tubes. The two tubes can be held in place by two metal cable bracets and small screws (wood) or epoxy (metal and you don't have the tools). If you use wooden bracets, you can even set the back tube ontop of the bracket, and the front below. That way the hats will be tilted a bit forward and presented a little nicer.

If you have the tools, you can make your own tilted brackets to presize meassure, but even if you buy finished brackets it is an affordable and elegant way to make a hat display, used in many hat shops all over the world

I was given this hat hanger with a clip by a friend and it sorts out the issue of what to do with my hat in a restaurant. I thought you might be interested if you haven't seen one already, I am sure all the experts already have!

Great idea when it can be used. I saw an old movie (at least pre 50s, prob 40s) not too long ago that had a scene in a diner where the seats (not stools) at the counter had clips on them to hold hats, not too dissimilar from what you've shown, though attached to the seat backs themselves. Had never seen that before.

This seems to be a perennial problem, what to do with a hat in a restaurants these days. Most restaurants, especially "family" restaurants, are so tightly packed with people and tables, I'd be loathed to hang my hat on the back of my chair for fear of it being taken off and trampled by passers by. Plus all our coats in the cooler weather, I tend to leave my hat in the car if I know its going to be a crowded situation. Though we've been know to simply take over a nearby table for our coats and stuff.

I was wondering the same thing. The device would be far more flexible if the hook rotated e.g. it could be placed over the back of one's chair in a restaurant.

The hook swivels on the axis parallel to the flat part of the clip though I am looking to put it into a vice and turn it 90 degrees at the top to hang better on a chair. As it is now it is perfect to hang on a coat hook.
