Not a "shevretka", but this is a badass soviet submarine coat. Many, many years ago, when we still had winters in Poland, I would have killed for something like this. Celebrities were wearing similar ones in winter, but in white leather, snow camo. Everyone wanted one, lol.

True. In the part of Europe where I am, leather jacket design has always been traditionally heavily influenced with German styles, with a lot of original vintage German pieces floating around. Turn east though, first neighboring country and you'd have a hard time finding anything like it.

This is really interesting. On this side of the Curtain, so to speak, I think there's long been a sort of assumption that the East Bloc in the Cold War era was divided into "Russia" and "Not Russia", and that everything was "the same". Obviously not the case! Funnily enough, I was thinking about this thread recently - I've bought a coupled of leather bits and pieces on Etsy recently, and Ukraine seems to be quite the hotspot for leather accessories (wallets, laptop cases, bags....). Got a peacock green leather rucksack on the way, old-style design, with a roll-top and an airplane-seatbelt style buckle... not so much as "vintage" design, but very sympathetic with my aesthetic.

Room for layering. Remember, leather is great as a windbreaker, but they really needed the room for warm layers underneath if they were stationed in the parts of Russia where the weather can be very cold in Winter. The size of Russia - and therefore the variability of climate - must be quite the challenge to standardising uniforms country-wide, surely?

I mean the short jacket that I'm not sure it meant to be worn in coldest part of russia is also very boxy.

Depends - if it was designed to be used in a cold cockpit, maybe? Don't know if it came with matching trews or not.

I've developed a real liking for the Soviet WW2 era padded jacket and trousers. I'm not sure where I'd wear it, but I kind a want a set anyhow. REal retro-futurist vibe to them!
