Buster Keaton's The General. Best comedy of all time. The most expensive movie made in the silent era.

Alltime favorite? Very possibly the original of "True Grit."

And here's one nobody has mentioned, though I haven't read the whole thread: Cary Grant in "Father Goose" from 1964. It was, I think, his one character role, that of a hard-drinking boat bum in the WWII Pacific. Funny, exciting, character details, everything.

Walter Eckland (to Leslie Caron's schoolteacher Catherine, regarding her students): "Let me tell you I am not a father figure. I am not a brother figure or an uncle figure or a cousin figure. In fact, the only figure I intend being is a total stranger figure."

[catching a fish barehanded. A fish swims toward them]
Walter: (in a hushed voice) "Hey, here she comes again."
Catherine: "How do you know it's a 'she'?"
Walter: "Her mouth is open, now be quiet."
(When we first saw this film on TV, my father laughed so hard at this exchange, he practically fell off the couch)

"Attack of The Nympho Cheerleaders From Planet X".

Actually, that film doesn't exist, though it really should.

If it did, then the sequel should be "Abbot & Costello vs The Nympho Cheerleaders".

It's an impossible task to pick an absolute, because life and art does not dwell on absolutes. I could pick if forced, I simply choose not to be forced to choose.
