What's the best heavyweight hoodie you would recommend?

Hello everyone,

Sorry if it's already been discussed but I've had a hard time finding anything about hoodies so here's my question: what's the best heavyweight hoodie you think on the market at the moment?

There actually aren't many brands, and as far as I'm concerned I owe a hooded sweatshirt from Camber, check here.
I was pretty disappointed as the stitches got all messed up after not too long... Which is sad because it truly is a warm sweatshirt.

So I did some research and I only see two interesting competitors:

• The 10-Year Hoodie from Flint and Tinder - here (99$)
• The hoodie by American Giant, which has been advertized as the "best hoodie ever made" - here (89$)

I'm a big fan of the Japanese repo brands. They are heavy weight, the cuts range from truly vintage to modern with vintage details. Buzz rickson, and the real McCoys being my favorites.

I have a newer team hoodie from Colleseum (Korea) that's OK. My favorite was the old Champion 'Reverse Weave'. made much like the Buzz Rickson's of today.
Carhartts are damn tough to beat for work wear.

I don't know, but your post made me order two sweatshirts from American Giant, one hooded and one mock neck.

Although they don't have the 10 year warranty they look better made, i am not a fan of the weird shoulders of the flint & tinder.
Also looking at pictures of both it seems the American giant would fit the athletic build better than the flint & tinder which looks more like it is deigned to fit really skinny people...

Being in the UK i don't know when i will get them, but i will update this thread when i do.

I have a hoodie with a quilted lining from Abercrombie & Fitch that is pretty heavy and quite warm. As for long-term wear, I suspect it will not last as long as you would want it to. I also have a military-style fleece hoodie that, though relatively light weight, is pretty warm, and I suspect it will wear like iron. I could not track down the maker but it is essentially identical to the TAD Ranger hoodie (see this review: http://blogs.militarytimes.com/gear...ht-design-tad-ranger-hoodie-long-term-review/ ).

I have a Dickies hoodie with a waffle lining that has taken a beating over a decade and is still in quite decent shape. The only conspicious damage is a small bleach stain and the zipper pull came off about two months ago although the zip mechanism itself is still solid as a rock.

I own a Buzz Rickson hoodi and a sweater. Both are teriffic. Very heavy, thick. Also my girlfriend loves them and wears them often in the house.

Just ordered one of the mid weight American Giant hoodies. Think I'll get more use out of that than a heavyweight one in Australia. Will let you know what its like when it arrives.

I own their Ranger LT and Praetorian hoodies. Both really top notch, and they have a bit more of an athletic, fitted cut to them which makes them great for layering.

The Carhartt stuff is really good: very well-made, and if you get an insulated hoodie, warm as all hell. I recently bought their "3-season hoodie" for work and it's great: a quilted nylon lining that makes it warmer than many actual jackets, with a wind- and water-resistant finish and a very functional hood. I'm consistently impressed with Carhartt's quality, the only downside (if you can call it one) is the brand's association with working class folks, and "function over fashion."

I've got an Abercrombie & Fitch pullover hoodie from a few years back.
Very thick cotton with beautiful detailing all over.
It's super high quality.
I looked at their site and it doesn't look like they offer that style any more.
All of the A & F stuff I've ever owned has lasted pretty much forever.

I think it should be pointed out that the fit between the ones you were originally considering and these 3 will be very different!

The American Giant and Flint and Tinder look like they will be a lot more fitted, more casual street wear.

The Carhartt, Champion and Kellsport will be more big baggy mess, to wear at work or when you plan on staying at home on your couch doing nothing all day!

Those 200-300 dollar ones look quite nice but..... well, not really. the Ranger ones are strictly backyard ninjas and the Freewheelers one has a shawl collar! What is it meant for? wearing to the opera maybe?

Gimme a good solid bit of workwear that is actually meant as workwear any day.
