What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

It seems current music doesn't follow any sort of form. It is just like a garbage pile. All mashed together, with no quality, and is annoying to be around. It doesn't follow a classic style, nor does it follow the blues scale. It doesn't sound good at all. It sounds vile, and it all sounds the same.

Quite right, and sad but true. I certainly won't miss what passes for "music" these days. But this current computer generated rubbish does not bode well for the future of music I fear. It's all just fast and cheap,...like so much of our "culture" these days, made with the idea of just making a quick buck.

You realize this has been said about EVERY type of music ever made, always made by people older than the target demographic, right?
I remember reading in a old newspaper that Big Band was going to kill music permanently and wasn't music at all...

Except that there is one thing I should point out. I am in the target age group, and I despise current music. That's because it isn't music. It's sonic garbage.

But seriously, I out-aged the target demographic for modern music years ago. Having heard what passes for "music" these days, I'm okay with that.

A lot of what I like depends more upon the artist rather than the period in which it was written. I enjoy traditional Celtic (mainly Irish) music, but much of what was recorded 50 or 60 years ago wasn't really as well researched or developed as what some of the younger artists are recording now. By its nature it has had to develop, evolve, and reflect the nuances of various artists- and obviously, if those artists want to really master their craft, they have to respect certain perimeters.

I realize that this is somewhat of an abstract generalization- but the point that I'm trying to make here is that what constitutes "modern" versus what constitutes "traditional" may lie entirely outside the realm of a simple historical time line. I doubt that my grandmother could have appreciated some of the sean nos vocalists that I love to listen to, because the scholarship that has enabled such works to be presented and enjoyed as they are now didn't exist in her time. (She didn't have much appreciation for what she deemed "Paddy Mick Irish music " anyway... John McCormack singing "Kathleen Mavourneen" was her idea of "traditional".)

Be careful when you pull up next to a vehicle withe characteristic thud, thud sound, they may not be listing to the music you think they are! The other day, I backed my truck out of the garage, then got out, left it running, with the radio on, to grab a part, when I was walking back, I noticed the sound coming from my truck, it sounded like I was listing to Rap! I was in fact listing to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The stereo in the truck is better then any thing I have ever had in my house, combined with hearing loss, I must of had it cranked up more then I thought!

Constant loud "sounds" will come back & haunt you .

Thanks for the advice, but to late on both counts! Motorcycles, aircraft, firearms, the loud music came lately. See, it all started in the 60s......

I don't know if I've said this before, but while I love an awful lot of today' technology, I really don't care for the trend to voice-activated stuff. This may or may not be because it never understands a sensible accent...

Of course. The other thing to bear in mind is that if old farts like us 'get' it, it's really not doing its job. One modern invention I'd love to see the back of is people whining about therre being "no good music anymore". There's always been and always will be good music, as surely as thed fact that around 90% of music has always been rubbish. I remember when people back in the day used to lament the state of Top of the Pops, say how much better it was in the Seventies.... and then hilariously recant when the Beeb started repeating the old shows and it became painfully obvious just how selective pop culture memory can be! lol

Well, precisely: it's all subjective. I've never had a problem finding great musicbeing made today, providing I've been prepared to look for it. [huh]

Absolutely agreed. I have no interest in ditching my accent to make myself understandable to a friggin' robot.

As far as not being able to find good music anymore, I agree that's the bunk. There were thousands of records made during the 1930s that I haven't heard yet, and I'm always finding new ones.

That is so true, when I was in my twenties ( now 50's) I thought I had heard just about every swing tune ever recorded. Thirty years later I find I'm still discovering songs I'd never heard from that era, and I'm sure when I die I'll still not have scratched the surface . That is the wonderful part of living now, the re-booting of so many great songs.

I won't miss the Facebook either. I check in from time to time to see what my friends in faraway locations are up to, but I never remember to post things myself and they get mad at me, telling me that the Facebook isn't a spectator sport. Unghh.

That is so true. It is probably more then 90% from any given era, that's why any oldie station only plays a small number of any given artists work.
