What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

You definitely don't want to come to southern California then. Most of these wimps start complaining when the mercury drops below 70°F, and complain longer and louder the lower it goes. That includes my dear wife, who grew up in the winter-snow-plagued Chicago area. :mmph:

Mixing injuries and cold weather is no joking matter. Anyone in that group is allowed to gripe!

I don't gripe when the colder weather hits but my knees and my back sure do, especially if it's damp colder weather. :eusa_doh:

I will rejoice the day that automakers eliminate the "helpful" hints your car gives you regarding system status. For example, instead of surprising me with a message like "Change Oil Now" (along with the panic bell ringing)which comes across as a command, I'd rather have a gauge showing oil life so that I can monitor it make the independent decision to change the oil. I mean after all, I own the car; I don't need it telling me what to do. "Check Tire Pressure" is another one that is irksome- I feel like telling the car- give me tire pressures for all four tires and then explain to me why I should panic when the idiot light is triggered by a 2 lb. pressure difference. There is a fine line between being helpful and being a nag.

Nope, quite the opposite. When engines run on water( hydrogen) or fission or even electricity, combustion engines will be obsolete. Same with power plants, instead of burning fossil fuels. When "beaming"( partical teleporting) becomes a reality, air tavel will become obsolete. When cars run over magnetic highways, road travel( tires on the road) will be obsolete. DNA mappers are unlocking diseases and conditions, treatment will be a matter of altering DNA, making perscription drugs obsolete. As will stem cell research.

Get a car that goes back 6-10yrs, and you won't get that.
I have 3 and none of mine have those annoying qualities.
Well the 2007 has an oil change monitor, other than that I don't have any system monitoring info.
Compared to a 2014 Escape for example, my newest car (2007) is primitive, despite being loaded for it's time.
And I couldn't be happier with that fact.
James Powers on the other hand has a newer vehicle, that might have a toaster where the CD goes. Well toast goes with bacon!

On the note about Southerners retiring up North, I have yet to meet one that has done that.
Lizzie, what you have there are direction challenged Southerners.
Most that I know want to go East or West but not North.
Some go further South, usually Florida.
As for their inability to take the cold, the Southerners you have up there must also have really thin skin.
We've experienced teens for lows for at least 15yrs. While it's annoying, especially being in a windy part of the city, it's not unbearable.
Alaska, and -50, that would be unbearable.

My newest car is 2008 dude. lol lol It doesn't talk to you but if you want the information you can look it up in the information menu. It emails me once a month to give me a summary though.

I get that e-mail.
With the yellow caution triangle because I don't have the phone activated.
No, I have 2 phones, 3 (at least) when the wife and I go out of town.
If I can't get a signal with any of those, there just isn't one around.
While being too connected is a modern inconvenience, there are some benefits to it. My wife's phone can stream the internet (I didn't care for one of those), so we stream "R U Sitting Comfortably" or RUSC.
It's a page loaded with all sorts of old radio shows, mystery, comedy, sci-fi (my favorite is x minus 1), etc.
Makes 12hrs go by somewhat quickly.
Speaking of that, I've read the specs on my cars at work (haven't received them yet), and apparently they'll have internet connectibility.
I know the tech stuff is run by Microsoft, but I don't think my other models have that feature.
Great, someone will be shopping online, while behind the wheel. :eusa_doh:

Then you go with his cousin SOL, but he's never really reliable and most of the time you still end up with nothing.

From what I've seen on the 2014 Escapes (as I posted earlier), some safety features are great and we've made wonderful progress in that field. I think the new ones have at least 8 airbags(?), while my 2000 Jeep has 2. Then again if I roll it off-road, it can be pushed back over and will probably start and drive from that point.
What concerns me is the Bluetooth integration of the phone. While I've told each driver (that has the newer Escapes) they can use the BT function, I'd rather they NOT be on the phone while driving. Then again, it's hands free which is better in some ways, as long as they aren't using that free hand to type on the laptop! Unless they're parked of course.
Some of the technology can be annoying though. Setting the clock in the new Escape becomes a challenge because of the steps you go through just to do it. In the older vehicles you just push the H on the radio.
Accident avoidance, traction control, abs...way too much computer if you ask me.

It had a backup camera. All of the stereo and heater controls were on a touch screen. Guess they'll NEVER have one of those with antique stickers...

I work for a large automotive parts supplier that does most of the electronic stuff you mention. You are absolutely correct, there will not be any antique vehicles in the future.
