You like IPA? Did you know that the term pale ale originally denoted an ale that had been brewed from pale malt. Among the first brewers known to export beer to India was George Hodgson's Bow Brewery, on the Middlesex-Essex border. Bow Brewery beers became popular among East India Company traders in the late 18th century because of the brewery's location near the East India Docks. Demand for the export style of pale ale, which had become known as India pale ale, developed in England around 1840 and it later became a popular product there. In London, where I lived, and before the rise of the popular lager beers, the draught porter beers rarely had a decent "head" on them. The head was the term for the creamy froth on top of the beer. The reason was because the water used in the London area was very hard, meaning that it has a high mineral content. So to pep up the beer, Londoners would order half a pint of draught beer and pour a bottle of IPA into it, giving it the head that beer drinkers like.
Tonight I cooked one of our favourite meat free meals: Mushroom Stroganoff. No IPA for me, rather a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

Was planning to grill some burgers, but it started pouring rain so I used the ground beef to make tacos. Refried beans, Spanish rice, guacamole, and jalapeno lemonade with vodka rounded out the meal.

Pepper infused vodka is one of the key ingredients in homemade kolbasa sausage! I haven't made any in awhile, might be time for a batch.Have you tried infusing your own liquor with peppers? Hubby did a smoked jalapeno tequila last year to use in margaritas. He loved it so much he took it to a work party to share, and then he got several orders for it!
