I've looked at a vacuum marinator. Still haven't bought one though, but I see the theory behind it, as it forces the marinade into the meat.
While I use the pressure cooker quite often for this very reason, pressure cooked steak and burgers wouldn't come out very well. :)

Yes, I am more used to using a marinade with a bit of an acid base.

Yup, oils work fine for marinades, as you have an acid with it (vinegar, wine, etc.) I frequently use salad dressings (Ken's has a really nice light balsamic) as marinades.
