What would you not be seen dead in?

What anyone wears is none of my business, wear what you like, but there are some wardrobe faux pas that are so cringe worthy that you wouldn't be seen dead in. I don't mean some of those appalling disasters in the not for the fainthearted thread, just the everyday things that you see out and about.

I wouldn't be seen dead in socks and sandals. Sandals are fine, but worn with socks, reminds me of Arkela the boy scout leader. Nor would I ever be seen in three quarter length cargo pants, nor profanities written across a T shirt.

As someone else so eloquently said in another thread, I just couldn't go out looking like I had just rolled out of bed. We Brits have turned the word scruffy into scruffs, meaning dumbed down, clean or not, first thing that comes to hand.

Something else that I couldn't wear is an overpowering cologne/aftershave/male fragrance. Nothing wrong with a small dab, but some guys all but shower in it.

I don't want to tread on sensitivities here but if you bought a pair of Ugg boots, what possessed you?

Now don't be shy, what wouldn't you be seen dead in?

Well, I tend to live in jeans and T-shirts or chinos and cotton shirts and real leather boots or shoes. I have a couple of denim jackets, a couple of leather jackets and two US Army / Navy jackets. Also a couple of 30 year old Gore-Tex Berghaus jackets with zipped in fleeces. I have some nice woollen sweaters for winter. And a few hats.

So I guess I wouldn't wear anything else!

However, what I certainly would never wear is a cheap suit. I have one job interview / wedding / funerals etc etc suit and it is a blue linen Italian suit. May upgrade one day to an Italian wool suit. I wouldn't be seen dead in one of those skinny modern suits in Teflon or other man made materials.

On the other scale of the fashion spectrum, I wouldn't be seen dead in a track suit, track pants, those sleeveless undershirts, cheap sneakers (or even expensive ones), or skinny jeans. Also, those pants adult men wear which stop at the mid shin. I wouldn't wear sandals, with or without socks. I wouldn't be seen dead in shorts. In fact I avoid totally what most British men wear. Period.

I wouldn't wear a sleeveless jacket or a safari jacket / coat or (cringe) safari suit. Nothing made out of nylon. OK for a backpack or bag, but clothing wise - forget it.

I live in Scotland these days (and have Scottish family) but I wouldn't be seen dead in a kilt. Especially those dress kilts with those thick socks, stupid little lace up shoes and dress jacket.

I wouldn't be seen dead in anything any of the royal family would wear; that includes those flat country hats, evening suits, waxed jackets, brogues, top hats, umbrellas, kilts, blazer jackets.......

I'd better stop here as too many more things to mention.......!!!!

No shorts unless exercising. No thong sandals. Don't care for T-shirts. No short sport jackets, the kind of thing where an adult male looks as if he's wearing his little brother's jacket.

If I have to pick only one, I'd say a tracksuit. I loathe those things, and the fact that you see more and more people around here wearing them on a daily basis in the streets. I completely fail to understand how someone in his right mind can think it's ok to go grocery shopping or whatever with these. Come on guys, its purpose is in the name itself!

I have sort of slipped away from the vintage look for awhile. Though I still like to dress up nice (and vintage) for going out on the town or special occasions, I have returned to mostly jeans and t-shirts for my daily wear.

I have also begun to grow my hair long for the first time in over 20 years. It is now at my shoulders and all one length.

BUT I REFUSE TO EVER WEAR IT IN A MAN BUN!!!

There seems to be a trend of wearing one's sunglasses on the top of one's head.

REALLY, you (and me) balding guys, do you really think the sunglasses hide your baldness and give the impression that you really have hair?

Oh, and the shaved head tough guy look and the 3 day hairy face ( beard) has become more than a little dated.

There's a guy that we know who goes to re-enactments, dressed as an RAF Officer, wearing his hair in a bun. A little more thought and a repositioning of the bun, it might just stay hidden under his officer's cap. But no, has to be on show.

There's some great no no's. Forgive my ignorance, can someone explain: Ropers.
Sandals are definitely not my cup of tea, sandals with socks and shorts that come below the knee, agh! Much as I couldn't wear sandals, I love wearing these when the weather gets warm. No socks of course. I bought them in The States years ago, I've never seen them sold in the UK.

The black sections are actually openings, what you see is the inner sole of the shoe.
